Occitania brings together 109 listed campsites across eleven departments, 47 of them with verified off-season opening. Only these are presented as open all year round: 18 others are seasonal sites and 44 await confirmation from the campsite. The region combines very different situations, from the high Pyrenean mountains to the Languedoc coast, and winter here is almost always spent in a chalet or a mobile home.
The Hautes-Pyrénées (23 campsites, 8 verified) and the Pyrénées-Orientales (16, 10 of them verified) form the core of the winter offer. In the Cerdagne, Las Closas heats its mobile homes and La Griole, at 1,580 m, stays open all year. In the Hautes-Pyrénées, Le Rioumajou heats its washrooms near Saint-Lary and L’Orée des Monts opens from 1 December to 31 March, then from May to October. Further east, Les Chalets du Lac in Belcaire, in the Aude, give access to the Camurac ski area, and Les Myrtilles, in Moustajon near Luchon, only closes from 15 November to 15 December. Lozère (Altier, Del Ron, Les Chalets de la Margeride) suits a quieter winter, on the heights of Mont Lozère and the Margeride.
In the Hérault, seven campsites out of ten are verified, including the Domaine Sainte Véziane in Bessan and Les Peupliers in Colombiers, along the Canal du Midi. In the Aude, Le Cap Blanc, in Leucate, has eleven mobile homes fifty metres from the shore, and L’Espazo, in Durban-Corbières, keeps six chalets and a motorhome area open in every season. The Gard has only two verified, L’Oliveraie and Le Moulin Neuf, rented as mazets or chalets. In Salses, near Perpignan, the Camping International du Roussillon welcomes guests all year.
The Gers, the Tarn, Tarn-et-Garonne, Haute-Garonne and the Aveyron mostly offer chalets rented by the night, week or month: Les Chalets des Mousquetaires, Les Chalets de Gaillac, Le Lomagnol, Les Violettes near Toulouse, Aici Sem Pla, the farm campsite in Vaïssac near Montauban, or Le Roquelongue on the Lot, whose rates include “other months”.
Distinguish between pitches and rentals, which do not always have the same dates, then ask about heating, reception hours and the state of the pools, which are almost always closed in winter. Confirm unverified sites by phone.
In winter, the Pyrenees offer alpine skiing at Saint-Lary, Font-Romeu or Camurac, cross-country skiing in the Capcir, snowshoeing in the Val d’Azun and the hot-water baths of Dorres and Llo, open all year. Luchon remains a spa town. In Lozère, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are available on Mont Lozère and in the Margeride, where the bison reserve can be visited by sleigh.
Away from the mountains, Gaillac holds a Christmas market from mid-December to early January, and the episcopal city of Albi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, can be visited in every season. Near Uzès, the Pont du Gard is only a quarter of an hour from Le Moulin Neuf. In Leucate, kitesurfers frequent the peninsula, and the Canal du Midi greenway can be cycled from Colombiers. In the Gers, the thermal baths of Lectoure and Castéra-Verduzan offer a wellness break, and Conques, in the Aveyron, is among the most beautiful villages in France.
Every open all year round campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.
We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.
