The Espace Pyrénées Loisirs campsite is at 1 rue Artigue Ménigue in Lau-Balagnas, in the Hautes-Pyrénées, at an altitude of about 450 metres. The village is very close to Argelès-Gazost, about one kilometre away, and the Voie verte des Gaves greenway runs through the commune. Tarbes-Lourdes airport is given as 23 kilometres away and Lourdes train station 13 kilometres, via national road 21.
According to the tourism listings, the site has 35 pitches and rents out equipped mobile homes and chalets, presented as combining the advantages of camping with the comfort of hotel-style accommodation. The campsite advertises a 5-star rating. It welcomes families, but also groups: meals, weddings and seminars are offered, with packages combining a dinner-dance and a night in a chalet.
Opening: the campsite is presented by the Hautes-Pyrénées tourist office as open all year round, and the regional tourism database gives an opening period of 1 January to 31 December for both pitches and rentals. Nothing is specified about any holiday closures; it is better to phone before coming in the depths of winter to find out about reception and heating arrangements.
The ski resorts are about 15 kilometres away, making Lau-Balagnas a possible base for a winter stay as well as a summer one. The campsite accepts dogs and cats, provided they are kept on a lead and vaccinated.
Ski resorts about fifteen kilometres away, Voie verte des Gaves for walking and cycling, horse riding 5 km away.
The campsite highlights a fairly complete relaxation area for its size: a swimming pool, a jacuzzi and a sauna, along with a games room and a sports area. A restaurant and a bar operate on site, and groups can book meals there for a wedding, a seminar or an evening in a chalet.
On the practical side, the tourism listings mention electricity and water hook-ups on the pitches, a shared laundry, an ice depot and a gas depot, as well as internet and wifi access. Shops, a casino and a cinema are about two kilometres away, which saves carrying everything from Lourdes or Tarbes.
Accepted payment methods are cheques, cash, holiday vouchers (chèques-vacances) and bank transfer. The published information does not say which facilities, notably the pool, jacuzzi and sauna, remain in service in winter: the pool is described as outdoor, with no mention of heating or a cover. It is better to ask the campsite before booking an off-season stay, particularly regarding catering and wellness.
On site, the entertainment revolves around the pool and the jacuzzi, with activities and a play area for children. The campsite also has table tennis tables, a pétanque court and a sports field, enough to fill a day without leaving the grounds.
In the surrounding area, facilities are close: tennis, fishing and a swimming pool about one kilometre away, horse riding at five kilometres, and the ski resorts about fifteen kilometres away. Argelès-Gazost, next to Lau-Balagnas, is the gateway to the mountains to the south, and the commune’s territory borders the Pyrenees National Park.
The Voie verte des Gaves, which passes through Lau-Balagnas, is suitable for walking and cycling over easy distances in any season. Lourdes is about 13 kilometres away, making it possible to add excursions to neighbouring valleys. In winter, the main activity remains skiing at the nearby resorts, provided you check snow conditions before setting off.
