Camping Les Peupliers is in Colombiers, in the Hérault, in the middle of the vineyards, five minutes from Béziers and a quarter of an hour from the beaches. The Canal du Midi runs 300 metres away, and the village has the local shops needed for daily life. The commune falls under the La Domitienne tourist office.
The campsite is rated 3 stars and has 55 pitches, 22 of which are occupied by rental units: 17 mobile homes, 3 air-conditioned wooden chalets and 2 cyclo lodges for cycling travellers, next to a two-bedroom eco-lodge. The rental units range from 24 to 40 m². The pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes measure 90 to 100 m², are separated by hedges and have a 10-amp hook-up. The campsite holds the Home Vélo label and offers an inexpensive backpacker package for passing cyclists, motorcyclists and hikers.
As for opening, the website says it is open all year round. Hérault Tourisme gives a 2026 period running from 5 January to 21 December, which suggests a closure of about two weeks at Christmas, and states that the rental units are booked by the night from September to June and by the week in July and August. One washroom block is heated in winter, while the pool is only open from 1 June to 15 September, weather permitting, and the bar-restaurant operates in season.
This setting suits cycle tourists on the Canal du Midi, families and motorhome owners looking for a stopover or a quiet stay near Béziers.
Walks or bike rides on the Canal du Midi, visits to Béziers, Pézenas, Sète, Narbonne and Carcassonne, discovery of the vineyards.
The campsite has two washroom blocks. The first, heated in winter, has three cubicles, one reserved for guests with reduced mobility and one fitted with a baby bath; the second, the summer block, has hot showers, an individual washing cubicle, toilets and a dishwashing sink. A laundry area has a washing machine (€5 a wash), a dryer and a laundry basin. A freezer is available free of charge for ice packs, and baby cots and an iron are lent subject to availability.
A motorhome service area is open to guests; other motorhome owners pay €5. Wi-Fi gives 30 free minutes every six hours, with paid packages beyond that. Dogs and cats are accepted for a fee, provided they are kept on a lead and vaccinated; categories 1 and 2 are banned. A shared grill area allows cooking on site; charcoal or wood barbecues are banned on the pitches.
For cyclists, the Home Vélo label guarantees a secure shelter and repair equipment. The bar-restaurant, with a covered terrace and an outdoor terrace, serves drinks, ice cream, tapas and homemade dishes in season; a €6 breakfast is offered by reservation from 8am, and a bread and pastry pick-up point operates in season. The campsite’s vegetable garden supplies eggs and vegetables. The pool, with a paddling pool featuring a water mushroom, opens from 1 June to 15 September; swimming shorts are not allowed and visitors are not admitted.
On site, children have an outdoor play area with bouncy castles, a small slide hut and a table tennis table. Behind the pool, a boules pitch hosts games of pétanque, and a pétanque tournament between campers is held on Sundays at 5pm. An indoor room, equipped with a pool table and a reading corner, serves as a refuge on bad-weather days; evening entertainment is also organised.
The Canal du Midi is the main activity: the walk or bike ride along the water starts 300 metres away, and the Malpas tunnel, the port of Poilhes and Capestang are nearby. In the area, you can go horse riding, play tennis, dive, fish, ride a rail bike or hire a boat without a licence, and visit the Sigean African Reserve. The beaches are about fifteen minutes away; the website mentions Valras-Plage, Vendres-Plage, Sérignan, Portiragnes and Cap d’Agde.
Cultural visits include Béziers, Pézenas, Sète, Narbonne and its Musée de la Romanité, Minerve, the Gruissan salt pans, the La Clape massif and the city of Carcassonne, 70 km away. The neighbouring vineyards and their capitelles, the dry-stone huts, can be explored on foot or by bike, and a bus service run by the local authority links to Béziers without a car.
