Les Jardins d’Estavar sits in the heart of the village of Estavar, in the Cerdagne, in the Pyrénées catalanes Regional Nature Park. Font-Romeu is about ten minutes away by car and Andorra is not far. This 3-star campsite is run by Magali and Jérôme, who focus on calm, mountain scenery and a deliberate digital detox: there is intentionally no wifi.
The site has 22 units: wooden caravans and chalets for up to 4 people, and a vintage mobile home designed for 6. Each has a kitchen, a bathroom, bedding, a television and a terrace facing the mountains. Sheets, towels and baby equipment can be hired at reception. The website does not list any bare pitches: the offer rests on these rentals.
As for opening, the Cerdagne tourist office lists a welcome from 1 January to 30 September and then from 1 November to 31 December, i.e. a closure limited to October. The campsite’s website does not publish winter dates: availability and rates can be checked in the booking module. Pets are not accepted, and the restaurant and entertainment are reserved for summer.
Skiing at the resorts near Font-Romeu, natural hot springs at Llo, free sledges lent on request.
The campsite mainly offers basic services for a quiet stay. A bar, a grocery shop and a point of sale for bread, pastries and cakes help out day to day, and a laundry and a barbecue area complete the facilities. The washrooms are accessible to people with reduced mobility, and a play area keeps the children busy.
The restaurant is open from 1 July to 15 September. It serves pizzas, burgers, salads and desserts, to eat in or take away on reservation, with two rooms seating 80 and a terrace. Ice creams, sorbets, crêpes and drinks are served during the day. Outside this period, you need to plan your meals or cook in your accommodation.
For water, the website announces a new pool being built, with an opening planned for late June; there is therefore no pool open all year. The campsite has no wifi, which is a choice made by the management. Two minutes from the campsite are a mini-golf course and basketball and football pitches. Children’s sledges are lent free of charge on request on arrival, a valuable service when snow falls on the village.
In July and August, the campsite organises entertainment and hikes. The rest of the year, everyone plans their own days: hiking, horse riding, cycling and canyoning are all possible in the area, along with nature, geology or botany outings and forest therapy.
Two state-qualified guides, Anaïs and Charlie, offer canyoning and caving outings in the Pyrénées-Orientales, with family routes, sporty routes and descents suitable for children from age 6. The Yellow Train, Romanesque churches, fortified villages and museums are among the suggested visits.
In winter, skiing is available at the resorts near Font-Romeu, and the natural hot springs at Llo remain a stop after a day outdoors. On site, the free sledges let you enjoy the snow around the village. The mini-golf and the neighbouring sports pitches are mainly used in fine weather, but they are only two minutes from the campsite.
From 1 January to 30 September and from 1 November to 31 December (tourist office); closed in October. Restaurant from 1 July to 15 September.
