D’Esplantats

Camping d’Esplantats is in Sarrancolin, a small town in the Hautes-Pyrénées that the campsite describes as the second town of the Arreau canton, not far from the Col d’Aspin and the region’s ski resorts. Rated 2 stars, it is a mountain campsite beside the river, presenting itself as a base for the Aure and Louron valleys.

The site has 55 pitches, of which 26 are offered to holidaymakers: tents, caravans, motorhomes and snow caravanning, on plots described as spacious, shaded and very quiet, with electrical hook-up. The campsite also rents mobile homes, by the week only, from Saturday to Saturday. The rest of the site is taken up by owners’ mobile homes. The washrooms, with free hot showers, facilities for disabled guests and a washing machine, remain accessible day and night.

Opening period: the campsite says it is open all year round, but for mobile home owners. The website gives no opening dates for passing holidaymakers, and in late September 2026 it displayed the message “campsite closed”, with 2027 rates and bookings announced from January 2027. A tourist stay in winter is therefore not confirmed: call 05 62 98 79 20 before travelling.

The campsite highlights a swimming pool, a snack bar, a children’s play area and social events such as belote tournaments. The website gives neither the pool’s opening dates nor the snack bar’s opening hours, and these facilities are described first and foremost for the summer season. The washroom blocks, accessible at all hours, offer hot showers at no extra charge, toilets, washbasins, dishwashing areas and a washing machine.

The campsite holds a label for welcoming guests with reduced mobility and accepts ANCV holiday vouchers. Pitches are numbered and marked out, with a 220-volt hook-up: an extension lead is recommended, and equipment must meet European standards. The campsite says it is suitable for snow caravanning, but does not specify for which dates or with which winter services.

On site, guests have a table tennis table, a petanque court and a children’s play area. Fishing is possible nearby, in the river that runs alongside the campsite, and belote tournaments are listed among the activities.

The campsite has a partnership with the École Pyrénéenne des Sports de Montagne, which gives guests 10% off its rates: rafting, hydrospeed, paragliding, canyoning, climbing, horse riding, caving and high-mountain excursions. The website also mentions the Col du Tourmalet, mountain lakes and skiing in the Pyrenees as possible outings. Sarrancolin also lies on the road to the Col d’Aspin and the Bielsa tunnel, which leads into Spain.
