Las Clotes is a small family campsite in Égat, a Cerdagne village of about 500 inhabitants perched at 1,700 m altitude in the Pyrénées-Orientales. The Font-Romeu resort is 3 km away, Spain 15 km and Andorra 40 km. The site backs onto the mountain, beside the Égat stream, and has an open view over the Cerdagne and the Sierra del Cadí.
Rated 2 stars, it offers 77 shaded or sunny pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes, as well as mobile homes and caravans to rent according to the tourist office. The atmosphere is calm and there are no major leisure facilities: two washroom blocks, a games room and hiking trails that start right at the campsite.
As for opening, the manager speaks of a welcome “summer and winter”. In winter, the campsite receives holidaymakers at weekends and during school holidays; the annual closure runs from 15 October to 15 November. It is also among the sites that accept snow caravanning. Outside these slots, winter weeks without school holidays are therefore not covered, and it is best to phone before setting out, especially for rentals.
Skiing at the Font-Romeu resort, 3 km away, hiking from the campsite and a visit to the solar furnaces of Odeillo.
The facilities are simple and designed for quiet stays. The campsite has two washroom blocks with hot water, washbasins in cubicles and baby-changing cubicles for parents of young children. The pitches have water and electricity hook-ups, and ice is sold on site according to the tourist office. The site is closed and supervised at night, reassuring for caravans left in place.
Guests can use a games room with two table football games and a table tennis table, handy when wind or cold set in, as well as a picnic area with tables and a communal barbecue. A children’s play area is also mentioned. Petanque players will find their place, and a meeting room is available.
No restaurant or pool is listed at the campsite. For shopping and meals, you will need to rely on Égat and above all on Font-Romeu, 3 km away. Reception is open every day from 7:30am to 10:30pm. Neither heated washrooms nor heating in the rentals are announced: outside summer, it is best to come equipped for the cold of high altitude. Payment is by bank cheque, traveller’s cheque or cash.
On site, guests play petanque, table tennis and table football, and children have a play area. The hiking trails start from the campsite, through a high Cerdagne landscape where winters are snowy and summers bright.
In winter, the Font-Romeu ski resort is 3 km away, within easy reach by car for a day on the slopes or a weekend. Snow caravanning is accepted at the campsite, which appeals to skiers who come with their caravan. The solar furnaces of Odeillo and Mont-Louis, the neighbouring fortified villages and the landscapes of the Cerdagne can be visited all year round.
In summer, walking and cycling dominate, with the Spanish border 15 km away and Andorra 40 km away for a day of shopping or exploring. The Yellow Train, which crosses the Cerdagne, adds to the possible outings from Égat. The campsite does not organise entertainment: the appeal of the place lies in its calm, its view and its proximity to the main sights of the Cerdagne, which each visitor puts together at their own pace.
From 1 January to 14 October and from 16 November to 31 December; in winter, weekends and school holidays only. Annual closure from 15 October to 15 November.
