L’Espazo is the campsite of the commune of Durban-Corbières, a village in the Aude in the heart of the Corbières, a few kilometres from the Narbonnaise Regional Natural Park. It stands on Avenue du Bord de Berre, some twenty metres from the little Berre river, on a plot of about half a hectare planted with trees and low hedges.
The site has 36 pitches in total. The camping area itself offers around thirty pitches, now run by the Camping-Car Park network: you arrive at any hour, with no staffed reception, and leave the same way. Alongside, six chalets equipped for six people make up the rental fleet, including one chalet adapted for guests with reduced mobility. A fire had badly damaged the chalets and facilities; the commune carried out renovation work and invited residents to a symbolic inauguration on 12 June 2026.
As for opening times, the chalets and the motorhome area operate all year round, including winter. Tents, caravans and towed vehicles are only admitted from 1 April to 31 October, the period when the washrooms are open. Off-season, the place therefore suits holidaymakers in chalets and self-sufficient motorhome and van travellers breaking their journey in the Aude.
The site is rated two stars. The village has an 11th-century castle, a 14th-century oratory and a market on Wednesday mornings.
Walks from the village, Corbières vineyards and a visit to the castle and village; market on Wednesday mornings.
The facilities remain basic, as you would expect of a small municipal site. The six chalets are rented with the option of adding sheets and crockery, so you do not need to bring your own linen. A laundry is available on site, barbecue areas are provided and a boules court lets you play under the trees. Pitches have water and electricity, and a motorhome service point allows emptying and refilling. Prices for a basic pitch start at around €18 a night, according to the departmental tourist office.
The camping area works in a particular way: with no staffed reception, it is self-service at any hour, which suits late arrivals of travellers passing through. The chalets are booked through the commune, which publishes two booking sheets, one for the Classique chalets and one for the Moderne chalets.
To swim, you have to leave the campsite: the municipal pool is about 300 to 500 metres away and only operates in July and August. The motorhome area and the chalets remain accessible off-season, but the shared washrooms are only open from 1 April to 31 October, which explains the limit set for tents and caravans. The campsite accepts pets on pitches and in the rental accommodation alike, and guests are welcomed in French, English and Spanish. Internet access is mentioned, with no indication of whether it is free.
The campsite does not offer organised entertainment: people stay here to relax by the river and explore the Corbières from there. On site, the petanque court and children’s play area keep the youngest busy, and a cinema is less than 500 metres away.
Walks start from the village: waymarked routes lead to the Narbonnaise Regional Natural Park, about 3 km away. Mountain biking and horse riding are among the activities listed by the department’s tourist guides. The 11th-century medieval castle overlooking Durban-Corbières, the 14th-century oratory and the village lanes can be explored on foot in a short stroll, and the Wednesday morning market is the place to buy local produce.
The village lies in the heart of the Corbières wine country. Those staying off-season mostly enjoy quiet walks, hiking routes and the village’s heritage, without the crowds; water, on the other hand, remains a summer activity, with the municipal pool open in July and August and the Berre a stone’s throw away.
Chalets and motorhome area open all year round; tents and caravans from 1 April to 31 October.
