Four city campsites are listed on the portal, three of them with verified off-season opening: in Avignon, in Rennes and in Seyssins, on the edge of Grenoble. The setting changes everything in the low season. Where summer revolves around the pool, winter and the shoulder seasons revolve around the city: museums, ice rink, festivals, trips by tram or metro, and business stays that need a simple, inexpensive base.
Camping Bagatelle, a 3-star site on the Île de la Barthelasse, stays open all year round opposite the Pont d’Avignon, a five-minute walk from the centre. Outside summer, the city keeps its programme: Cheval Passion in January, Les Hivernales in February, the Fêtes du vin in November. Note that tents are not accepted there from November to the end of February, and reception switches to winter hours. Mobile homes remain the winter option. In Rennes, Camping des Gayeulles, a 3-star site with the Clef Verte label, sits in a 100-hectare park 5 km from the centre, with the metro 1.3 km away. It closes from 25 December to 1 January, and its washroom blocks close as early as 2 November: winter is then for motorhomes or caravans with their own washroom facilities.
A city campsite also suits anyone working during the week. At Les 3 Pucelles in Seyssins, 61 pitches, air-conditioned mobile homes can be rented from two nights, the washrooms are heated in winter, the wifi is free and tram C stops four minutes away on foot, reaching Grenoble in a quarter of an hour. Tent pitches there open only from April to October. In Avignon, Bagatelle has two panoramic rooms equipped with a projector for meetings and seminars, as well as a youth hostel and a hotel on site.
First specify the type of accommodation: in winter, tents are refused in Avignon and in Seyssins, and the washrooms of a city campsite are not always open. Then ask about reception hours (at Bagatelle, reception is open from 9am to 1.30pm and from 3.30pm to 8pm from November to the end of February, compared with 9am to 8pm from March to October) and about the year-end closure, then the real distance to the centre. A fourth campsite, Les 2 Rhône, also on the Île de la Barthelasse, closes from 8 November 2026 to 4 March 2027: it is a spring, summer and autumn address.
In Rennes, the Gayeulles park is home to the Le Blizz ice rink and a covered municipal swimming pool, both open from October to May, as well as a fitness trail and cycle tracks. The cycle path along the Ille-et-Rance canal reaches the historic centre in half an hour.
In Grenoble, from Seyssins, count on the Polesud ice rink, the museums, the Bastille cable car and indoor play parks. The greenways V63 and V64 can be cycled in dry weather, along the Isère and the Drac.
In Avignon, the Via Rhona runs alongside Camping Bagatelle and the Comité Vaucluse de canoë-kayak offers descents of the Rhône. In winter, favour the festivals and cultural visits in the city of the Popes, and keep the Camargue, the Pont du Gard or the Luberon for a day trip by car.
Every open all year round campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.
We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.
