A verified selection, presented on equal footing, in an order that changes with every visit.
Seventy-nine 2-star campsites are listed on the portal, 52 of them with verified off-season opening. Twelve close for several months and fifteen state year-round opening that we have not confirmed. The 2-star rating describes simple facilities: few leisure services, so little to close in winter, but also few facilities to count on. What stays open at the verified campsites are the rental accommodation, the pitches and sometimes the washrooms.
Here the low season is in the detail. In Saint-Genis-Laval, Camping des Barolles opens 365 days a year but closes its tent area in winter. At Relais de Vallée Blanche in Sallanches, tents are accepted only in summer. At Caravaning du Grand Sart in Sainghin-en-Mélantois, near Lille, tent reception stays closed until April, while caravans, vans and motorhomes are welcome. A few exceptions offer more: Canada in Épône (Yvelines) heats its covered pool from April to the end of September, and La Trye in Bresles (Oise) opens its own during the winter holidays.
In the mountains, many 2-star sites keep their rental accommodation open: Le Mousca in Gavarnie-Gèdre rents its mobile homes all year, but its pitches only from 20 June to 31 August. Le Marintan in Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne opens chalets and mobile homes all year, a few minutes from the Orelle cable car. Le Bosquet in Bun charges the same rates in every season, and Hautacam in Préchac welcomes tents, caravans and motorhomes all year. Las Clotes in Égat, 3 km from Font-Romeu, opens in winter only at weekends and during school holidays.
Vieux Moulin in Champdor-Corcelles is open every day all year, with yurts and pods. Le Sevron in Saint-Étienne-du-Bois closes from 16 October to 2 November 2026, and Terre de Loire in La Ménitré advertises 12 months out of 12, with arrivals possible around the clock from 5pm. In Brittany, the municipal campsite L’Étang in Marcillé-Robert closes only at Christmas and New Year’s Eve. In the Yvelines, L’Île du Roi in Triel-sur-Seine welcomes leisure and business stays all year.
Ask whether tents are accepted in winter, whether the washrooms are heated and on what dates reception operates. Le Dauphin in Saint-Pierre-d’Oléron closes from 6 November to 21 March and in winter receives only on its motorhome service area.
A 2-star site mainly serves as a base for discovering the surrounding area. From Mornant, La Trillonnière organises a shuttle to the Festival of Lights in Lyon in December. In Champdor-Corcelles, snowshoeing and sledding are on offer on the Hauteville plateau, and in Saint-Étienne-du-Bois the Bouvent park is free from October to April. At Domaine de Trémelin in Iffendic, the lakeside bar stays open from October to March for belote afternoons and games evenings.
In the Pyrenees, Gèdre has a covered natural-ice rink open all year, with a Luz-Gavarnie shuttle from mid-December, and Hautacam offers skiing and rail sledding below the campsite. Heritage lovers will find Versailles and Thoiry from Épône, and the Château de Chantilly 15 minutes from Parc des Grands Clos.
Every open all year round campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.
We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.
