Camping Castel Fizel

The Castel Fizel estate is about 2 km from the village of Caudiès-de-Fenouillèdes, in the Pyrénées-Orientales, at 350 m altitude, at the foot of the Corbières and in the heart of Cathar country. It covers 40 hectares of holm oak woodland, about ten of them equipped for leisure, and presents itself as an outdoor activity centre approved to host groups of children.

The campsite, rated 3 stars, has around forty units: 13 standard pitches and 2 group pitches of at least 100 m², ten chalets of 47 m² for 4 to 6 people, six mobile homes sleeping 4 to 6, canvas bungalows “Kiwis” of 25 m² and wooden caravans for 8 people, described as insulated and heated. The atmosphere is deliberately calm, with no entertainment by day or in the evening.

The swimming pool, with a main pool and a paddling pool, is open from mid-June to mid-September. In peak season, groups of children may share the common areas. First- and second-category dogs are banned.

Opening period: pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes are announced from mid-June to mid-September, and the 2026 mobile home rates cover March to October. The website publishes neither closing dates nor a winter offer: for a stay from November to February, you need to contact the campsite.

Reception is open every day, from 8am to noon and from 2pm to 6pm Monday to Saturday, and from 10am to noon and from 3pm to 5pm on Sunday. The campsite offers a washing machine and tumble dryer, a barbecue area, a children’s play area, and cold drinks, ice creams, souvenirs and local products at reception. Free wifi is limited to reception. Catering on site is reserved for groups.

The heated outdoor pool has a main pool and a paddling pool. It is only accessible in season, from mid-June to mid-September. Each pitch can be given a 10 amp electrical hook-up for an extra charge, and the chalets have a fitted kitchenette, a shower and a separate toilet. A 30 m² meeting and activity room is used mainly by the groups hosted on the estate. The village of Caudiès-de-Fenouillèdes, 2 km away, remains the base for everyday shopping.

On the estate, the equestrian centre welcomes all levels, with pony rides, horse riding and trail rides. There are also mountain bikes to rent with or without a guide, several cycling routes, a multisport court, a football pitch, table tennis tables, a petanque court and a play area. Paid, supervised activities are offered to children, such as quad biking from age 6 and circus skills.

From the centre, partners organise canyoning, rafting, hydrospeed, canoeing and kayaking, caving, climbing, high-ropes courses, quad biking in the forest and hiking. In the surrounding area, the Cathar castles of Puilaurens, ten minutes away, and Quéribus, twenty minutes away, as well as the Galamus gorges, twenty minutes away, are easy to visit. The Tautavel museum is 25 minutes away, the Dinosaur museum 35 minutes, and the Maury wine route crosses the region. The beach and ski resorts are about 45 minutes away.
