The municipal campsite La Rivière is in Porté-Puymorens, on Chemin du Bois (Cami del Bosc), in the upper Carol valley in the Cerdagne. The village, just above 1,600 m altitude, has only about a hundred inhabitants and is home to a village ski resort created in 1936. The site is about 10 m from the river that runs through the commune, on the road to the mountain lakes and close to the slopes.
Run by the town hall, it offers 60 unclassified pitches, with or without electricity, as well as wooden chalets by the week, from 580 euros according to the 2026 price list. Snow caravans, or caravaneiges, are accepted, which points to a winter use that is fully embraced, and pets are allowed for a supplement of 1 euro per day.
As for opening, the commune presents the campsite as a place for sporting activities “summer and winter alike”, and the tourist office’s official listings give it reception hours throughout 2026, every day, from 9am to 12pm or 1pm and from 3pm to 7pm, opening at 9.30am from 3 to 27 November. No annual closure is indicated. The website does not detail which accommodation is heated or the access conditions after heavy snowfall: it is best to call before driving up.
Out of season, the campsite suits skiers, hikers and fans of high-altitude stays looking for a simple, affordable base.
Downhill and cross-country skiing at Porté-Puymorens, snowshoeing in the Cerdagne, Pied dans le Vide footbridge, Train Jaune, hot-water baths at Dorres.
The facilities are basic and offered à la carte. The campsite provides washrooms, electrical hook-ups at 8 euros per day, a washing machine at 5 euros, a tumble dryer at 4 euros, a refrigerator made available overnight at 5 euros and a shower only at 2 euros, a handy option for passing hikers. A library, a pétanque court and children’s play equipment are also mentioned; access for disabled guests is indicated and Spanish is among the languages spoken.
On 2026 prices, a bare pitch is listed at 6 euros per day, while the package for two adults, a car and a pitch ranges from 16.58 to 23.58 euros per day. A child under 7 costs 3 euros per day, and the tourist tax is 0.29 euro. Payment is by bank card, cheque or cash, and the rules of the campsite are available on the commune’s website.
The chalet, described as a light leisure dwelling (habitation légère de loisirs), is rented for 580 euros per week. The published price list does not state its capacity or equipment, or whether it is heated: this information should be requested at reception. There is no swimming pool or beach at the campsite, and neither a restaurant nor a shop is announced on site; the rest can be found in the village and in the surrounding resorts.
The campsite is close to the Porté-Puymorens ski resort, one of the snowiest in the range according to public descriptions, with, according to the online encyclopedia, about fifteen downhill runs, around ten lifts and about 40 km of cross-country trails, between 1,600 and 2,500 m altitude. Skiing is therefore available very close to the campsite.
In summer, the commune lends itself to hiking: the GR 10 crosses the area, several mountain lakes such as the Étang de Font-Vive and the Lac del Passet can be reached on foot, and the Carlit massif, with its lakes, overlooks the valley. Horse riding is among the activities cited by the tourist offices. The Pied dans le Vide panoramic footbridge in Porté-Puymorens offers an open view of the summits, in snow and in summer alike.
The Train Jaune stops at Porté-Puymorens station and links the Cerdagne to Villefranche-de-Conflent. In the Cerdagne you can also fly over the plain in a hot-air balloon, explore the plateau on snowshoes with a guide, or relax in the hot-water baths at Dorres, open summer and winter. For children, the campsite provides play equipment.
Campsite open all year round, summer and winter: reception every day from about 9am to 12pm or 1pm and from 3pm to 7pm, no annual closure announced.
