This department of Occitania has sixteen listed campsites, ten of them with verified off-season opening. These are the only ones presented here as open all year or in winter. Almost all are in the Cerdagne, in the mountains, a few minutes from the ski resorts; the others are in Sournia, in the Fenouillèdes, and in Salses-le-Château, on the Roussillon plain near Perpignan.
The Camping municipal La Rivière, in Porté-Puymorens, welcomes guests in summer and winter, with no annual closure announced, with chalets by the week and snow caravans accepted. In Err, Las Closas heats its washrooms and mobile homes; from November to April, it opens at weekends and during school holidays. Le Puigmal, next door, closes in October and follows the same winter rhythm. Las Clotes, in Égat, also welcomes guests in winter at weekends and on holidays, and only closes from 15 October to 15 November. La Griole, in Targasonne, is open all year at 1,580 m with gîtes, mobile homes and cabins, as well as a sauna. Mas Piques, in Bourg-Madame, closes for only a fortnight or so in October, and Les Jardins d’Estavar in October only.
In Osséja, the municipal campsite El Paillès rents out its chalets all year. La Source, in Sournia, opens its pitches and rentals all year, with a covered pool. Near Perpignan, the Camping International du Roussillon, in Salses-le-Château, is open all year: pitches under nearly 200 pines, a children’s play area and a motorhome area, close to the fortress.
The campsite at Tautavel is seasonal, from March to early November. Castel Fizel, La Bastide, Le Segre, Le P’tit Bonheur and Nai’a Village say they are partly open off-season, though we could not verify this: Nai’a Village announces opening from April to December. Ask each one before booking.
Compare opening days, as winter is often limited to weekends and school holidays. Ask whether the mobile homes are heated, whether the pitches are cleared of snow and whether the pool is operating.
From the Cerdagne, seven to nine ski resorts share alpine skiing and snowboarding, including Font-Romeu, 3 km from Égat, and the Puigmal resort, above Err. Cross-country skiing is available in the Capcir, and snowshoeing on the plateau. After the snow, the hot-water baths of Dorres, Llo and Saint-Thomas stay open all year. In Estavar, sledges are lent out free of charge.
The Yellow Train links the Cerdagne to Villefranche-de-Conflent, and the solar furnaces of Odeillo and Mont-Louis can be visited in every season. In Osséja, a free outdoor escape game is played around the village. On the plain, the fortress of Salses stays open all year, a 15-minute walk from the campsite, with a stroll to the lagoon complex; Perpignan, Collioure and Leucate are within driving distance.
Every open all year round campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.
We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.
