L’Orée des Monts is set in the hamlet of La Séoube, in the commune of Campan, in the Haut Adour valley. The site lies at around 1,000 m altitude, 3 km from Payolle and its lake, and about fifteen kilometres from Bagnères-de-Bigorre, the first spa town of the Hautes-Pyrénées. The Col d’Aspin, the Grand Tourmalet ski area with La Mongie, and the Pic du Midi are all close by.
Rated 3 stars, this family campsite spreads out in a quiet, wooded setting. It has 98 pitches, 34 of which are for holidaymakers; the site also cites 57 plots of about 100 m² rated Grand Confort, as well as eight types of mobile home for 2 to 6 people. All the rental accommodation is fitted with a reversible system that heats in winter and cools in summer.
As for opening, the 2026 calendar published by the departmental tourist office lists three periods: 1 January to 31 March, 1 May to 18 October and 1 to 31 December. The campsite is therefore closed in April and from late October to late November. The campsite’s own website gives no dates, but it mentions rest “all year round”, off-season rates, reduced reception hours and, from 2 January to 31 March, electricity charged by consumption in the rental accommodation.
A 15% discount applies from 21 nights, for rentals and pitches alike, an offer aimed in particular at spa guests visiting Bagnères-de-Bigorre.
Skiing at Grand Tourmalet (La Mongie), cross-country skiing at Payolle and spa treatments at Bagnères-de-Bigorre, about fifteen kilometres away.
The campsite offers what you need day to day: bread service, ice cream, newspapers, gas bottles, washing machines and tumble dryers, as well as a service area and a parking area for motorhomes. A meeting room with a television is available for sports groups. In summer, the grocery shop, the bar and the pizzeria are added.
For water, there is a heated pool (28 °C at most), a heated hot tub and a paddling pool. Please note: the website states that these facilities, like the grocery shop, the bar-pizzeria and the entertainment, only run in summer. Off-season, you will therefore have to rely on bread, the laundry and the rentals.
The mobile homes have a fully equipped kitchen, a living area with a television and a terrace with garden furniture; the toilet is separate in all models except the smallest, the Bambi, which sleeps two. The three-bedroom Cordélia sleeps up to six. Bed linen is not provided, but disposable sheets can be hired for €20 a pair. Outside the summer, the minimum rental is two nights and a same-evening booking may be refused.
Reception is open from 8am to 1pm and from 3pm to 8pm in summer, then from 9am to 12pm and from 3pm to 6pm off-season. The pitches are marked out, electricity is extra and a communal barbecue is available. Washrooms meeting disabled-access standards and wifi complete the facilities.
On site there is a play area, a trampoline, a petanque court, a table tennis table and a library. In summer, the campsite organises entertainment: concerts, themed evenings and a big paella. No entertainment is announced for the rest of the year, which suits those looking for the calm of high altitude.
The Haut Adour valley, also known as the Campan valley, is ideal for mountain biking, climbing, fishing and hiking. Lake Payolle is 3 km away, the Col d’Aspin opens the road to Bagnères-de-Bigorre and the Col du Tourmalet leads to the Pic du Midi, which is reached by cable car from La Mongie. Further afield, Cauterets, the Pont d’Espagne and Lac de Gaube, the Cirque de Gavarnie and Lourdes make good day trips.
In winter, the Grand Tourmalet area, with La Mongie and Barèges, is one of the largest in the Pyrenees, and Saint-Lary-Soulan lies further south. Cross-country skiing is available at Payolle, a few kilometres away. Bagnères-de-Bigorre, about fifteen kilometres away, remains the destination for spa treatments, hence the discount given for three-week stays.
Stage 6 of the 2026 Tour de France, Pau-Gavarnie, crosses the Col d’Aspin and the Col du Tourmalet on 9 July, a few minutes from the campsite.
From 1 December to 31 March and from 1 May to 18 October (2026 calendar); closed in April and from late October to late November.
