Eighty-six campsites offering chalets for rent are listed on the portal, 64 of them with verified off-season opening. Occitanie has 26, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes 18, and the Pays de la Loire and the Grand Est 8 each. A chalet open all year is not necessarily a heated chalet, however: often only the accommodation stays open, while the pitches close from October to April.
Heating varies from one campsite to another. The chalets at Les Cîmes in Chamonix are fitted with electric heating, those at Saône Valley with central heating, and those at Les Chalets des Mousquetaires in Mirepoix are heated in winter, charges included. In Gaillac, as at Le Clos des Tourterelles, reversible air conditioning heats the accommodation. On insulation, Azun Nature has redone that of its chalets for two people. At Camping des Lacs, chalets and gîtes have their own bathroom, while cabins and lodges share communal washrooms.
In the Alps, La Cascade in Les Deux Alpes publishes rates from December to May, and Le Haut des Bluches in La Bresse offers a free winter bus to the slopes, with a closure from 8 November to 17 December 2026. At Le Lac de la Terrasse, eight heated chalets reopen from 18 December. In the Doubs, the Source du Doubs ski resort faces the campsite of the same name, whose chalets are rented all year. In the Cantal, La Prade rents its chalets 20 km from Le Lioran.
In the lowlands, chalets often serve for long stays. Les Chalets de Gaillac offer monthly rentals from September to May, La Venise du Bocage in Nesmy opens its rentals from June to April, and L’Ambois in Mouilleron-le-Captif welcomes long stays in winter. Camping municipal du Bac in Ménil heats chalets and gîte off-season, with weekend rates.
Some chalets are not rented in winter: those at Domaine Les Gandins close from October to April, L’Étang de la Fougeraie closes its rentals in February and La Trillonnière between Christmas and early January. Eleven campsites on this page are seasonal, with several months of closure, and eleven others state off-season opening that we have not confirmed.
Ask about the heating type, whether it is included in the price, the bathroom in the accommodation and the exact dates.
A chalet in the low season is chosen as much for its surroundings as for its comfort. In Mouthe, the Source du Doubs resort offers downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, biathlon and sledding. In the Val d’Azun, the campsite rents snowshoes and offers a private spa after a day on the slopes. In Belcaire, autumn suits mushroom picking and the deer rut.
In the Tarn, Gaillac sets the rhythm of the late season with the new wine in November, the Christmas market from mid-December to early January and the winegrowers’ Saint-Vincent in January. From Mornant, La Trillonnière organises a shuttle to the Festival of Lights in Lyon in December. In the Vosges, Fraiteux is close to the thermal cures of Plombières, and La Bresse offers an ice rink and a cinema.
For a getaway without skiing, the chalets at Camping municipal du Bac are close to the Vélo Francette towpath and the Thursday market in Château-Gontier.
Every open all year round campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.
We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.
