La Prade municipal campsite is in Neussargues en Pinatelle, in the Cantal, on the banks of the Alagnon at 820 metres above sea level. The south-facing site covers two hectares on the edge of the Volcans d’Auvergne Regional Natural Park. The SNCF station is less than 500 m away, Murat about ten minutes by car, Saint-Flour about twenty and the Le Lioran ski resort around 20 km.
The site is rated 3 stars. It comprises about twenty pitches marked out by hedges and partly shaded (around 100 m², 10 A electricity), six chalets rated as tourist furnished accommodation, eight mobile homes and two pignes, small wooden units of 11 m² for two people. One mobile home and one chalet are adapted for people with reduced mobility, as is one washroom in the central block.
As for opening, the campsite states a desire to welcome guests twelve months a year. The chalets and pignes can be rented all year round, from a simple weekend to a longer stay, with winter rates published (from €249 to €349 a week according to the tourist office). The mobile homes, converted to a “four-season” version, are advertised by the campsite as available all year; the commune rather says May to mid-October, a point worth checking before booking. For the pitches, the rules mention year-round opening and the washrooms are now heated and locked with a keypad; however, the 2026 rate is shown for the period from May to October.
Reception is open from January to December, from 9am to 7pm Monday to Saturday, and on Sunday from 9am to 12pm and from 4pm to 7pm.
Downhill skiing, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing at Le Lioran, 20 km away; hiking trails from the campsite and electric biking with charging points on site.
The facilities are simple and functional. The heated washroom block has hot showers, a baby-changing room and cubicles adapted for people with reduced mobility. It has been accessible by keypad since the 2025-2026 season, so it can be used even when the campsite is quiet. A laundry with washing machine and dryer is available, and a fridge can be hired for pitches at €30 a week. Bed linen and towels can be hired at €10 each.
Wifi is free throughout the site. Communal barbecues are provided, and individual fires are forbidden. At reception, a heated common room offers board games, tourist information and a television, the latter open only in July and August. A closed marquee has been set up to shelter from bad weather. Three charging points for electric bikes are available.
The chalets (two bedrooms, mezzanine, kitchen with oven, dishwasher and microwave) and the mobile homes are equipped with a kitchen, a television and wifi; the pignes have a kitchenette with an induction hob and heating. The campsite has no swimming pool or restaurant: food options are concentrated in the village, where there are shops. Off-season, comfort comes mainly from the heating of the accommodation and the washrooms. Pets are accepted for €2 a day, except category 1 and category 2 dogs.
On site, the programme stays quiet: a playground for children, a boules court, a table tennis table and fishing in the Alagnon, which runs alongside the site. One reader of the guest book wondered about the fishing permit; it is best to check before casting a line. Hiking trails start directly from the campsite, and the charging points are handy for electric bike outings.
Le Lioran, the largest ski resort in the Massif Central, is 20 km away. It has 44 runs over 60 km, a beginners’ area, a snowpark, sledding runs and routes for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and dog sledding. In summer, the cable car goes up to the Plomb du Cantal, which rises to 1,855 m and can also be reached on foot. According to the tourist offices, a snow shuttle links Neussargues, Murat and Le Lioran in winter.
The campsite’s website refers to the Hautes Terres Tourisme calendar, which lists festivals, markets, flea markets, guided hikes, exhibitions and workshops in the area. The nearby station makes it possible to come without a car.
Chalets and pignes open all year round; mobile homes and pitches advertised as year-round by the campsite (reception from January to December), pitch rates shown from May to October.
