The intercommunal campsite at Lac de La Terrasse lies in the Grésivaudan valley in the Isère, at the foot of Belledonne and the Chartreuse, halfway between Grenoble and Chambéry. Run by the Le Grésivaudan communauté de communes, it is set within the La Terrasse leisure park, beside a lake fringed by meadows and overlooked by the mountain ranges.
Rated 2 stars since 2024, the site has 64 bare pitches, 60 of them connected to a 10-amp electricity hook-up, shaded or semi-shaded, on grass or stabilised ground. It also offers eight wooden chalets of 35 to 45 m² for 4 to 8 people, one of them adapted for people with reduced mobility, as well as six two-berth cabanétapes, launched in 2025 for hikers and touring cyclists.
As for the opening period, it is worth knowing the calendar before booking. In 2026, pitches, cabanétapes and chalets operate from 1 April to 31 October inclusive, after which the campsite closes for about seven weeks. The chalets reopen on 18 December for the Christmas holidays, with online booking; the end date of this winter opening has not been published. Self-contained motorhomes and vans can also be accepted until 31 March inclusive, by reservation only, without heated washrooms.
The site serves as a base camp for skiers and hikers alike: the Le Collet and Sept Laux resorts are less than an hour’s drive away. The rules, however, state that long stays, mobile homes and permanently sited caravans are not accepted.
Introductory skiing at Le Collet and the wide open spaces of Sept Laux in winter; walking around the lake, fishing and equestrian centre all year.
Three washroom blocks, accessible to people with reduced mobility, serve the site. Those by the pitches are not heated, which is why the tent and caravan season ends at the end of October. A laundry has two washing machines (6.5 and 10 kg) and a 10 kg tumble dryer, with tokens sold at reception, and a microwave area lets you warm up a meal after a day on the bike or on foot. Free Wi-Fi is available near reception.
Motorhome owners will find a service point for emptying grey and black water and filling up with water, free for guests, as well as a freely accessible rinsing point near washroom 2. The campsite also rents disposable bed linen kits and towels, and lends picnic equipment (tables, chairs, cool box). Three picnic areas and three concrete barbecues are freely accessible. A bread service, ordered the day before, is planned for July and August, to be confirmed for 2026 with the reopening of the snack bar.
The eight chalets are heated and air-conditioned, with a fitted kitchen, shower room, living room, television and covered terrace; these are the ones that stay open for the Christmas holidays. Pets are admitted for a supplement in the chalets, excluding bedrooms and bathrooms, but not in the cabanétapes. As for swimming, the lake beach is currently closed and swimming is prohibited, including in the rest of the lake: the campsite states this on its website, and it is best to check before you come. A games library and a book caravan complete the offer.
In the leisure park, you can walk around the lake all year round; fishing and model boating are also possible. From April to October, the neighbouring Elfy Park leisure park welcomes families. A free-access playground is laid out for children aged 3 to 7, under parental supervision, and the campsite provides a games library at reception.
Around the campsite there are many hiking routes, from a simple family walk to mountain outings; the main route sheets are available at reception. Mountain bikers take the Belle Via along the Isère or the resort trails. An equestrian centre, open all year, is 1.5 km away, and Lac de Tencin, less than 2 km away, offers a water-ski tow and an artificial wave. The area is also known for its free-flight sites, notably Lumbin and Le Collet d’Allevard.
Local heritage includes many châteaux in Belledonne and the Chartreuse, and the area runs three museums: in Allevard (the Galerie), in Pinsot (the Forges et Moulins) and in La Combe de Lancey (the Combà Autrafé). Cinemas and performance venues dot the valley, and two casinos, in Allevard and in Uriage-les-Bains, are open all year round.
In winter, the campsite presents itself as a starting point for introductory and learner skiing at Le Collet, less than 50 minutes away, and for the wide open spaces of Sept Laux, less than 45 minutes away. The play area at the Col de Marcieu also offers activities for children.
Pitches, cabanétapes and chalets from 1 April to 31 October; chalets reopen from 18 December for the winter; self-contained motorhomes until 31 March, by reservation.
