Seasonal campsite: our checks show it closes for several months a year. Check the opening dates before booking.
The Lake Narlay campsite is located in Le Frasnois, in the Jura, on the edge of a protected lake owned by the commune. The site lies in the Haut-Jura Regional Nature Park, in a Natura 2000 zone and a classified site, about ten minutes from the Hérisson waterfalls. It presents itself as a nature campsite, with no water park and no noisy entertainment, with 130 pitches, most of which have a view of the lake.
The site is best suited to tents, vans, motorhomes and small caravans. You choose a natural pitch with free placement, or a flat, stabilised pitch with electricity, with a 10 A socket. For sleeping without a tent, the campsite rents a small wooden chalet for two people, with electric heating, and an Airstream caravan for two to four people, bookable for a minimum of six nights.
Opening period: this is a seasonal campsite. The website advertises a welcome from May to September, and the 2026 rates run from opening until 2 July, then from 3 July to 31 August, with a return to low season in September. It is therefore closed in winter. For any question about the exact opening and closing dates, you need to contact the campsite.
The lake is home to trout, perch, migratory birds and protected aquatic plants, which explains the quiet rules displayed on site.
The campsite offers the services of a nature site. At the top of the site, a large washroom block adapted for people with reduced mobility has hot showers, sinks, washbasins and a baby-changing table; at the bottom, a smaller block brings together toilets, showers and washbasins. Cleaning is carried out several times a day. A laundrette is available, as well as refrigerated lockers and a lending service for baby accessories.
A restaurant with a view of the lake serves simple cooking, and a small shop provides basic necessities. There is no Wi-Fi on the site. Motorhomes can empty their grey water free of charge and fill their fresh water tank; however, neither the campsite nor the commune has a disposal point for chemical toilet cassettes, which should be planned for before arrival.
Waste sorting is compulsory, with containers at the entrance towards the restaurant. Pets are accepted if declared on arrival, for €3 per night. Open fires on the ground are prohibited, and barbecues are only tolerated in raised trays, away from the tents. Swimming is in the lake, with no water facilities on the site. Reception provides tourist guides and brochures.
On site, you can swim in the lake, play table tennis, and children enjoy a play area. Fishing is regulated: a special permit sold at reception is compulsory, €5 per day or €15 per week, and only fishing from the bank is allowed. The lake is presented as the Jura’s foremost natural lake for fishing, with fishing spots about a hundred metres from the campsite, where perch, pike and zander are caught, preferably from May to October.
Around the lake, forest walks start directly from the campsite. About ten minutes away by car, the Hérisson waterfalls, a Grand Site de France, offer a short 1 hr 30 loop or a full 3 hr loop that passes 31 waterfalls. The Quatre Lacs viewpoint, a quarter of an hour away, can be reached by an easy one-hour round-trip walk from the Col de la Colombière, with views of lakes Narlay, Ilay, Petit Maclu and Grand Maclu.
Further afield, the Pic de l’Aigle is 20 minutes away, and Les Rousses 35 minutes, with the Fort des Rousses, a former fortress turned comté maturing cellar, which can be visited with a tasting. Mountain bike hire, paragliding and guided hikes can be enquired about at the tourist offices of the Jura mountains.
Seasonal campsite: open from May to September (exact dates to be confirmed with the campsite), closed in winter.
