Seasonal campsite: our checks show it closes for several months a year. Check the opening dates before booking.
L’Astrée campsite is in Bourg-Argental, in the Loire département, at an altitude of around 550 m and on the edge of the Pilat Regional Nature Park. It runs alongside the Déôme river. Saint-Étienne is about 45 minutes away by road and Lyon 1 hour 15 minutes; the Ardèche and the Haute-Loire are both close, making it a convenient stopover on the north-south route.
The small site has 37 pitches for tents, caravans, vans and motorhomes, most of which can be hooked up to electricity. For rentals, there are wooden chalets for 5 to 8 people (including one model adapted for guests with reduced mobility), a barrel cabin and a stopover cabin for two. It belongs to the Onlycamp network, which applies a single rate across all its campsites.
Opening period: this is a seasonal campsite. It announces its 2026 season from 20 March to 1 November, then closes for about four and a half months. There is therefore no reception for a stay in December, January or February; in March as in November, it is best to call 07 69 73 05 60 before setting off.
Around the site, outings are on foot or by bike: a fitness trail at the edge of the forest, Pilat hiking paths and a local market on Sundays.
Facilities are simple. One sanitary block has hot showers, toilets, washbasins, a dishwashing area, a baby corner and washrooms adapted for guests with reduced mobility. A motorhome service area allows waste water to be emptied and fresh water to be filled. The laundry room is open to guests.
At reception there is a small convenience shop with basic necessities and local specialities, as well as a counter for a coffee, an ice cream or a local beer. A common room is freely accessible, with board games, a book box and a kitchen corner equipped with a fridge, a hob, an oven and crockery. Touring cyclists have a secure garage, a repair kit and a small kitchen. Wi-Fi covers reception and the common room. Dogs are allowed on a lead, with an up-to-date vaccination record.
There is no swimming pool at the campsite. The heated outdoor municipal pool, reached by a short path from the site, opens in July and August, with a main pool, a fun pool, a toddler area, a wide slide and a water slide. Entry is charged and not included in the stay.
On site, children have a freely accessible play area with swings and a slide, next to a petanque court and a table tennis table. A neighbouring tennis court can be booked at reception, and a fitness trail runs along the forest, very close to the campsite. Anglers can cast a line in the Déôme, which borders the site.
In the surrounding area, the Pilat massif, about ten kilometres away, offers hiking trails and panoramic views; Acrobois Pilat, about 8 km away, has treetop adventure courses. The Musée du Parchemin is 9 km away, the Roche Péréandre, a hiking and viewing spot, 13.5 km, and the Safari de Peaugres, a drive-through wildlife park, about 12 km.
These activities are best planned for the opening season, from March to November: the campsite does not take guests in the depths of winter.
Seasonal campsite: open from 20 March to 1 November 2026 (dates announced by the campsite), closed in winter.
