Overview

Huttopia Arcachon occupies 5 hectares of pine forest, at 5 allée de la Galaxie, in Arcachon, in the Gironde. The town centre and its Ville d’Hiver district are about a ten-minute walk away, the Dune du Pilat is about 10 km away, and the oyster huts of the basin are one of the visits the campsite highlights. The site advertises 203 pitches and access for visitors with reduced mobility.

Accommodation consists of wooden chalets, wooden caravans and, for the warmer months, Toile et Bois tents. The chalets can be booked all year round: the Évasion (5 people, 2 bedrooms), the Victoria (3 people, 1 bedroom), the Portland (6 people, 3 bedrooms) and the Ontario, designed for visitors with reduced mobility (4 people, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, access ramp). Several have a fitted kitchen, a terrace and electric heating. Pitches are also available for caravans and motorhomes.

As for opening, the campsite clearly states “open all year round” and presents itself as a place where you stay in every season: chalets and wooden caravans off-season, tents reserved for the good weather. In winter, the site promotes a walk around the harbour, the salty ocean air and discovering the Ville d’Hiver rather than swimming. The dates of the café-counter, the bar service and the pool are published separately, on the campsite’s page, and vary by period.

The setting remains that of a nature break: the pine forest, bike rides and the ocean, a few kilometres away.

The campsite aims to be simple and close to nature. A communal building has a library, board games and a relaxation area for rainy days, and a laundry room with washing machines and tumble dryers is available. Reception helps out with a small shop, and you can rent a fridge or a barbecue. Two washroom blocks serve the pitches. The detailed list of services also mentions electric bikes for rent by the half day or full day, and a service area for motorhomes.

The Café-Comptoir, whose shaded terrace overlooks the pool, offers drinks and light meals such as pizza; it is one of the services whose opening dates should be checked on the campsite’s page. Breakfast and bar service follow the same principle. Fresh bread is delivered every morning for the breakfast options.

For swimming, the campsite has a heated outdoor pool, complemented by a paddling pool for the youngest; again, its dates should be checked before you leave, as it is mainly used in the warmer months. The beach is not at the foot of the campsite but a few kilometres away, towards Arcachon, Andernos, Arès and Lanton. Several chalets have electric heating for autumn and winter stays, while the tents are only offered in summer. Bed linen and cleaning are optional extras.

In summer, the campsite organises children’s activities with the Petits Trappeurs, outdoor entertainment, and evenings with concerts, shows or open-air cinema. There are also yoga classes under the pines, oyster tastings with oyster farmers and sailing, windsurfing or surfing courses with local partners. On site, the grounds have a wooden play area and a petanque court.

The campsite is also a base for cycling: the cycle paths lead to the forest and the basin, and electric mountain bikes can be rented at the campsite. Around Arcachon, you can visit the Dune du Pilat, the Le Teich bird reserve, the Cazaux lake, the Banc d’Arguin sandbank and the cabanes tchanquées of the Île aux Oiseaux. The area also has the Parc Coccinelle and the Arcamômes for families.

Off-season, the Ville d’Hiver in Arcachon, about a ten-minute walk away, with its villas and its Parc Mauresque, can be visited all year round. A walk around the harbour, mushroom picking and forest walks in autumn, seafood tastings in the oyster huts and the local markets round out an off-season stay.
