Camping Au Cœur des Monts is set in Les Halles, in the Monts du Lyonnais, west of Lyon. It lies between the A7 and A71 motorways, which also makes it a possible stopover on the way to holiday destinations. The site is arranged around two private ponds, amid greenery, with hiking trails that start almost at the door.
The accommodation is varied: chalets and mobile homes, tipis sleeping 2 to 8 people, pre-erected tents and pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes. Motorhome owners can settle by the pond. Riders passing through have a fenced paddock for their horse. The site also hires out a marquee for private events.
As for opening, the campsite states that it is open all year round. Chalets and mobile homes can be booked 365 days a year, while the tipis are limited to the period from 1 April to 31 October and the pitches welcome travellers from April to November. In the off-season, the site also receives business travellers and trainees: the accommodation, fitted with a full kitchen, suits medium- to long-term stays, from a week to several months, with monthly rates displayed.
You can call Monday to Friday, from 9am to 5pm, to prepare an arrival or get details about a long stay.
Fishing in the ponds, hikes on the Monts du Lyonnais grand loop, aquatic centre and bowling nearby.
The pitches are served by a washroom block accessible to people with reduced mobility, with showers, washbasins and toilets. A shared area provides a washing machine and a fridge, and an electricity hook-up can be added on request, for 4 euros a day. The chalets and mobile homes have an equipped kitchen, an outdoor area and a terrace, with a dishwasher.
Breakfast can be delivered on reservation, at 8.80 euros per person. For meals, several places are very close to the campsite: the Relais des Monts du Lyonnais, three minutes away on foot, serves home-style cooking and takeaway pizzas on Friday evenings, and other restaurants, pizzerias and fine-dining venues are in the surrounding area.
For leisure, children have a play area with a swing, and there are table tennis tables, football goals and a pétanque court on site. There is no pool at the campsite: for a swim, the Escapade aquatic centre, with indoor and outdoor pools, is one of the regional facilities the campsite points out. The horses, for their part, can bathe in the pond.
Rates are published: from 5 euros per night per person for a tent and 7 euros for a caravan or motorhome, a vehicle fee of 1.50 euros a day, and rentals by the week or month depending on the season and model.
Fishing is the central activity here. Two private ponds are directly accessible from the campsite: fishing is free for campers, while outside visitors must request it and buy a day permit. Supervision of the activity is available for groups on request, and youngsters can learn to fish.
The campsite also welcomes touring riders, who find a prepared paddock to stop in before setting off again on the nearby trails. These include the Chemin de Montaigne and the Monts du Lyonnais grand loop, which can be followed on foot or on horseback.
In the surrounding area, there are several family outings: treetop adventure and zip line at the Le Jas and Yzeron courses, Explor Game puzzle games, a maize maze, bowling, the Salva Terra medieval park, the Courzieu wildlife park with wolves and birds of prey, the Hat Museum and Chamousset castle.
In the off-season, the ponds, the trails and the calm atmosphere of the Monts remain on the programme, as shown by the winter photos published by the campsite. The regional aquatic centre and bowling alley offer options in bad weather.
