Domaine La Cabane Verte

The Domaine de la Cabane Verte is located in Moux-en-Morvan, in the Nièvre, on the shore of Lac des Settons, at about 600 metres altitude in the heart of the Morvan Regional Nature Park. The site, a little over two hectares, was a small municipal campsite created in 1985. Since 2015, the commune has entrusted its management to a couple of local entrepreneurs who have turned it into a residential leisure park (parc résidentiel de loisirs) rated 4 stars.

About forty wooden chalets and wooden caravans are rented out, for 2 to 10 people, with a small garden, balcony or terrace, living area and fitted kitchen. Hotel services are included: bed made on arrival, towels, soaps and end-of-stay cleaning. Prices start at €95 a night for a wooden caravan. A stay can begin on any day, from one night, by booking by phone. Pets are accepted, except cats and category 1 and 2 dogs.

Opening period: the domaine presents itself as open all year round, four seasons out of four, with a reception open every day. The offer for holidaymakers consists of these chalets and wooden caravans, bookable at any time, and not of bare pitches; most belong to owners who entrust them to the domaine for rental management. Off-season, it caters to couples, families, hikers and company groups or seminars.

The domaine is pedestrian-only and wooded; a beach with a jetty is just opposite.

Depending on the season: themed evenings, nature outings and New Year’s Eve parties at the domaine, Tour de Ronde around the lake on foot, games library and films at the Bistrot.

The services are built around the hotel formula: each chalet is delivered with bed linen, towels and end-of-stay cleaning, so you do not need to bring much luggage. Reception is open every day and offers maps, tourist information and advice. A team is on hand for technical problems, and arrangements are possible for late arrivals or early departures.

The domaine’s Bistrot currently serves a sweet and savoury breakfast buffet every morning at €15 per person, from 8am to 10:30am. Lunches and dinners are served according to an opening calendar, generally from Thursday to Sunday, with cuisine featuring mountain specialities; meals can also be taken away to the chalet, including for New Year’s Eve. A kota grill and braziers, by reservation, allow you to cook outdoors. For shopping, the nearest shops are in Moux-en-Morvan, Montsauche-les-Settons or Alligny-en-Morvan, then in Saulieu, Autun or Château-Chinon, and the website recommends the local markets.

The domaine also provides a games library with books in French, Dutch and English, board games, a piano and a guitar in the Bistrot, DVDs and a large screen, as well as a room with a panoramic terrace for parties and groups. Equipped meeting rooms are available for seminars. In summer, an inflatable floating water park is added on the lake, in July and August.

On site, the play area is freely accessible at any hour: little ones have a slide and a climbing frame, older children a boules court, a table tennis table and football, volleyball and basketball pitches. The domaine lends rackets, boules, balls and an archery game at reception. A leisure base, reserved for guests, rents mountain bikes, canoes and paddleboards. Themed evenings, nature outings and New Year’s Eve parties are organised according to the season.

The domaine is the starting point of the Tour de Ronde, a walking or mountain biking circuit around Lac des Settons that crosses the dam. The tourist office offers dam visits, electric bike rides and crayfish-fishing outings. The region also offers more sporty activities, such as rafting, disc golf, e-foil, horse riding or climbing, as well as courses for children and teenagers.

For culture and heritage, the website mentions ecomuseums, castles, abbeys, a clog maker, markets and flea markets, then more distant stops: Autun, Saulieu, Vézelay (UNESCO World Heritage Site), Beaune and its Hospices, Dijon, Semur-en-Auxois and the archaeological site of Bibracte. It even suggests a six-day programme to visit the six great lakes of the Morvan: Settons, Pannecière, Saint-Agnan, Chaumeçon, Chamboux and Crescent.
