A verified selection, presented on equal footing, in an order that changes with every visit.
One hundred and thirty-eight 3-star campsites are listed on the portal, 93 of them with verified off-season opening. Twenty-three close for several months and 22 state year-round opening that we have not confirmed. It is the category with the most verified campsites, and the share of verified sites is higher here than among the 4-star ones.
The number of stars describes the facilities, not the calendar. Many 3-star sites stay open in winter with a reduced offer, without a pool or entertainment. Camping des Gayeulles in Rennes is open all year except from 25 December to 1 January, but closes its washroom blocks as early as 2 November: winter is for motorhomes or caravans with their own washroom facilities. By contrast, Domaine des Poteries in Flines-lès-Mortagne welcomes mobile homes and overnight stops all year, and Fraiteux in Plombières-les-Bains heats its washrooms and keeps its bar open from Tuesday to Sunday.
Le Giffre, a caravan-in-the-snow campsite in Samoëns, is open in summer and winter alike, with the Grand Massif and its 265 km of pistes. Les Deux Glaciers in Chamonix welcomes guests from 15 December to 1 November, and L’Escale in Le Grand-Bornand from 5 December 2026 to 31 March 2027. In Aussois, La Buidonnière keeps its winter caravan pitches and rental accommodation open all year, except for one week in early May. In the Pyrenees, La Mousquère in Bourisp heats its mobile homes from around 1 December to 11 October, and La Griole in Targasonne offers pitches, gîtes and cabins in summer and winter alike. Le Puigmal and Las Closas in Err open in winter only at weekends and during school holidays.
Away from the mountains, Napoléon in Gap stays open 365 days a year. Bagatelle in Avignon opens all year but does not accept tents from November to the end of February. On the coast, Les Cercelles in Saint-Pierre-d’Oléron open their covered pool during the winter holidays, and Le Cap Blanc in Leucate rents its mobile homes all year. In the Sarthe, La Sittelle in Loué receives chalets and pitches every day. In the Vendée, La Grisse in Le Givre opens pitches and rentals all year.
Distinguish rentals from pitches: at La Grange du Pin (Ain) or at Kanopée Trévoux, the rentals open all year but the pitches close from October or November to March. Ask whether the washrooms are heated and on what dates the pool and the restaurant operate.
In the low season, the 3-star site serves as a starting point. In Plombières-les-Bains, there are the thermal cures and the Vosges trails; in Châteauroux, the Balsan’éo pool, open all year 2 km from Rochat Belle-Isle; in Avignon, Cheval Passion in January, Les Hivernales in February and the Fêtes du vin in November.
Near Trévoux, the Dombes offers pond fishing from October to March and Lyon its Festival of Lights, 30 km away. In Rennes, the Le Blizz ice rink is in the Gayeulles park, and the pig festival or the torchlight descent can be enjoyed in winter near La Mousquère, with a free shuttle to Saint-Lary. In Saint-Pierre-d’Oléron, the Musée d’Oléron can be visited off-season.
For activities on site, La Buidonnière in Aussois opens its heated pool and wellness area in winter, and Plage du Midi, near the Lac des Settons, its heated covered pool with sauna and hammam area depending on the period. In Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez, Villa Campista offers pétanque on 12 lanes, tennis and table tennis, but its entertainment runs only in July and August. At Les Voiles de Laives, booking is per night, and Domaine Les Gandins rents gîtes and guest rooms all year.
Every open all year round campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.
We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.
