Savel campsite stretches over seven hectares along Lake Monteynard, in Mayres-Savel, in the Isère. It lies at the crossroads of the Vercors, the Chartreuse and the Écrins National Park, about 45 minutes from Grenoble. Rated 3 stars, it has 172 classified pitches, including many grassy, shaded plots on the lakeshore, as well as some forty rental units: mobile homes for 2 to 8 people, wooden chalets for 5 people and safari tents for 4 to 6 people.
The place appeals to water-sports and hiking enthusiasts, with direct access to the lake, which is known for its wind. The management stresses tranquillity: no noise is tolerated after 11pm. Pets are no longer admitted to the campsite or the rental units.
Opening period: this is a seasonal campsite, which closes in winter. The published reception hours cover the months of April to October, with reduced hours in April and October (9am to 12pm, 2pm to 5pm), extended in May, June and September, then in July and August. No precise opening date is displayed and no winter offer is available: to find out the opening or closing day, you need to call 04 76 81 14 79.
The La Pergola restaurant, the pool and the entertainment follow the same rhythm: they operate mainly in the warm season and reach full swing in July and August.
The heated pool, with gradually increasing depth, offers a view of the lake and the mountains; it is reserved for campers and for the warm season. The La Pergola restaurant, open to all, serves traditional homemade cooking and wood-fired grills: Friday to Sunday in low season, Wednesday to Monday in July and August. The Mam Mam Bar serves pizzas, burgers, ice creams and cocktails, with a large terrace.
Reception doubles as a grocery shop, sells local products and fishing or water-sports equipment, and offers a bread service to be ordered the day before. A small market is held on Wednesday mornings in July and August. Free wifi covers the campsite, a laundry is available, and reception, the restaurant and one washroom block are accessible to people with reduced mobility. All plots have an electric hook-up.
Lake Monteynard is the main playground: sailing school, windsurfing, catamaran, paddleboarding, canoeing, water skiing, wakeboarding and towed tubes are offered by operators based on site. You can also rent a boat with or without a licence, and fish for pike, perch or zander; the campsite sells fishing permits. The lake shuttle La Mira runs cruises of 1.5 to 2.5 hours and a 30-minute crossing to the Himalayan footbridges hike.
Children from age 6 enjoy free activities on weekdays: treasure hunts, mini Olympics, ping-pong or volleyball tournaments. In July and August, concerts and karaoke nights liven up La Pergola on Thursdays and Saturdays, and a firework display is held every summer above the lake. A lake operator also runs lessons and courses of a few mornings. The surrounding area offers the Château de Vizille, the Sainte-Luce organic farm, treetop adventure parks and the La Mure train.
Seasonal campsite: reception open from April to October (exact dates not published, to be confirmed with the campsite), closed in winter.
