Camping Bagatelle sits on the Île de la Barthelasse, between the two arms of the Rhône, about five minutes on foot from the centre of Avignon. From the site, the view opens onto the Pont Saint-Bénézet and the Palace of the Popes. The 197 pitches stretch out beneath century-old plane trees, away from the bustle of the city.
The site is part of a larger complex, the Camping Auberge Bagatelle: next to the campsite are a 141-bed youth hostel, split between dormitories for 4 to 8 people and rooms for 2 to 4 people, and a hotel of ten renovated rooms. The campsite also has mobile homes to rent, called Mobile Home Coco. Avignon Centre railway station is a quarter of an hour on foot.
As for opening, the official website states that the campsite is open all year round, with arrivals possible from 2pm to 9.30pm. Reception is open from 9am to 8pm from March to the end of October, then from 9am to 1.30pm and from 3.30pm to 8pm from November to the end of February. One restriction is worth noting: tents were not accepted from 1 November 2025 to 28 February 2026.
The campsite lies in a flood zone; safety and evacuation instructions exist and are available on simple request at reception.
Avignon festivals outside the summer: Cheval Passion in January, Les Hivernales in February, Fêtes du vin in November; bike rides along the Via Rhona.
Within the campsite, a grocery shop covers everyday needs: dry goods, cold drinks, regional wines, charcuterie and cheeses, as well as a few souvenirs. A laundry has four machines of 6, 8 and 10 kg, several with automatic detergent dosing, and a tumble dryer; payment is by card, notes or coins. In the same room, luggage lockers and refrigerated lockers can be rented at reception, subject to availability.
Food is provided by two bars and two restaurants. The Bagatelle pizzeria restaurant serves home cooking on a tree-shaded terrace, with pizzas, a short menu and traditional, vegan or gluten-free set menus, and the Pavillon Bleu offers a view of the Pont d’Avignon and the city of the Popes. Two multi-purpose panoramic rooms, equipped with a video projector, host meetings, seminars and group meals, and a games room is available.
The campsite is guarded day and night. It has no swimming pool; to cool off, visitors head to the banks of the Rhône or to the nearby leisure centre.
In the off-season, the laundry, the grocery shop and reception on winter hours remain useful, as do the hostel and the hotel, which list mid-season rates for 2026. The exact opening hours of the bars and restaurants should be requested directly on site.
Cycling comes first: the campsite adjoins the Via Rhona, an 815 km route that follows the river through vineyards, lavender fields and hilltop villages. Five minutes on foot away, the Comité Vaucluse de canoë-kayak runs daytime and night-time outings and descents of the Rhône, passing under the Pont d’Avignon, as well as paddleboarding.
On site, themed evenings take place from May to October 2026: dinner concerts every Saturday night at the restaurant, with country, celtic, manouche jazz or pop-rock styles, and karaoke on the first Sunday of the month. A sports field completes the offer, and the games room keeps the youngest busy.
The range for excursions is wide: Villeneuve-lez-Avignon, Orange and its Roman theatre, the Pont du Gard, Nîmes, Arles, Gordes and the Sénanque abbey, Roussillon, the Alpilles, the Camargue or Mont Ventoux, whose summit rises to 1,910 m. The Dentelles de Montmirail wine route, with Gigondas or Vacqueyras, is also mentioned.
From October to April, Avignon’s calendar stays busy: Cheval Passion in January, Les Hivernales in February and the Fêtes du vin in November. The Festival d’Avignon takes over the month of July.
Campsite open all year round; tents not accepted from November to the end of February, reception on winter hours from November to the end of February.
