Domaine des Îles lies in Chanaz, in Savoie, on the Savières canal, between the Rhône and Lac du Bourget, which is only 3 km away. The village, a Petite Cité de Caractère, is also a stage on the Camino de Santiago route and the ViaRhôna. The facility is run by the municipality and is rated 3 stars.
The camping area has 108 pitches of up to 80 m², on grass for tents or gravel for motorhomes and caravans, with optional electricity. Around it, the estate offers unusual accommodation: î-lofts on stilts for 6 people, 32 m² ecolodges combining chalet and tent, safari tents, wooden caravans, harbour chalets, six Transylvania chalets for up to 8 people and two mobile homes. Travelling tents and small rooms for two welcome pilgrims.
As for opening, the campsite is open all year round, hot-water washrooms included. The Transylvania chalets and the Iris mobile home are listed for all seasons, while the ecolodges and safari tents are reserved for spring and summer. Off-season, the traveller reception follows reduced hours, Monday to Sunday.
The place suits couples, families, pilgrims and motorhome travellers looking for a base for the lake, the mountains and Aix-les-Bains.
Skiing about 30 minutes away in winter, hiking in autumn, events and entertainment offered all year round in the village of Chanaz.
The estate provides simple, practical facilities: washing machine and dryer, games room, tennis, pétanque court and a shared barbecue. The washrooms have hot water all year round. Since 2026, you can order your breakfast the day before by 6pm (8.50 € for the full set) and collect it from reception from 9am; pastries are also sold individually.
The accommodation is equipped with a kitchen, a washroom and a private terrace. The Transylvania chalets have three bedrooms and air conditioning in the living area, as does the Iris mobile home; a single-storey chalet for 4 people is designed for guests with reduced mobility. Pets on a lead are accepted. Motorhomes have a service point outside the estate.
There is no pool at the campsite: to swim, you enjoy Lac du Bourget, 3 km away, and can add a spa in Aix-les-Bains, half an hour away. The village has several restaurants, some of which serve only in fine weather, a mill turned into a family restaurant, craft shops and everyday shops. The 126-berth marina, for its part, is full, with launch ramps and mooring limited to 24 hours. The free kids’ club, for ages 3 to 11, runs during school holidays.
Water sets the tone: the Savières canal can be explored aboard boats that need no licence or on cruises, and operators offer boat trips from 5 April to 25 October. Lac du Bourget is 3 km away for swimming, and the ViaRhôna passes through the village for bike rides, with the wild Rhône close by.
On land, Chanaz village is visited on foot: flower-filled lanes, craftspeople, makers’ markets, concerts in summer, the Maison de Boigne and a museum. On site, children find the Île aux enfants club, Monday to Friday from 9am to 11:30am during school holidays, with crafts, sports and outings organised with the Chanaz leisure centre.
Off-season, the municipality announces events and entertainment all year round. Skiing is possible about 30 minutes away in winter, the village craftspeople can be seen in spring, and hiking takes over in autumn. The estate also hosts seminars and weddings in its large function hall, and visitors can choose their activity according to the weather thanks to a guide presented on the website.
