Le Bois de Cornage covers four hectares in Vizille, in the Isère, about 9 km from Grenoble. It stands on the RN 85, the route Napoleon followed in 1815, and the Château de Vizille with its park is only 1 km away. The site sits in the shade of plane trees more than fifty years old, which give the lanes their airy feel.
Rated 3 stars, the campsite has 31 accommodations and 84 pitches. For rentals, there are six models of mobile homes, from the 16 m² Cosy for two or three people to the 40 m² Eden for seven, including a single-storey model adapted for guests with reduced mobility. There is also a wooden shelter, circular shelters and other unusual accommodation. Pitches measure 80 to 130 m², have no hedges, and electricity (10 A) is included in the nightly price.
On opening, the website states that the campsite operates all year round, but not everything is available in every season. The mobile homes are offered with no annual closure; the pitches, the unusual accommodation and the shared washrooms operate from 1 April to 31 October. From November to the end of March, reception is open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 12pm and from 3pm to 7pm, and is closed on Sundays.
Dogs (other than first-category dogs) and cats are accepted on the pitches and in the accommodation, provided they are kept on a lead.
Vizille château and Museum of the French Revolution 1 km away, Uriage thermal baths, and the resorts of Chamrousse, L'Alpe d'Huez and Les Deux Alpes for skiing.
The campsite deliberately keeps its offer simple. Two washroom blocks provide toilet paper and soap, with individual cubicles, a cubicle adapted for guests with reduced mobility, dishwashing sinks, a baby-changing area and hairdryers. A laundry room, located in these blocks, has two washing machines and one tumble dryer. A waste disposal point with a water tap serves motorhomes; you need to bring your own hose, and a flat fee applies to vehicles from outside the campsite. An electric vehicle charging point is also available, and waste sorting points are located in the entrance car park.
Wi-Fi is free at reception; elsewhere on the site, you have to buy a card. There is no grocery shop or bread service on site: a bakery and an Intermarché are about 500 m away. From May to mid-September, a snack bar and pizza area offer burgers and takeaway dishes, which can be eaten on the terraces. A library and games complete the offer.
The unheated outdoor pool, facing due south, includes a paddling pool. It is open from 1 June to 28 September 2026, unsupervised, and is reserved for guests staying in a mobile home or on a serviced pitch. Off-season, you should therefore not count on the pool or the snack bar; the shared washrooms, and the laundry room they house, are announced as open from April to October.
On site, the decor takes the place of entertainment: drawings and colourful creations dot the lanes and the washrooms, and children and adults alike enjoy spotting them all over the site. A play area and a library make it possible to spend a quiet evening without leaving the campsite.
In Vizille itself, the château and its park can be visited on foot from the campsite; the Museum of the French Revolution is housed there (dogs are not allowed in the park). Grenoble is only 9 km away, and the campsite serves as a base for reaching the Belledonne, Chartreuse, Vercors and Oisans massifs, where there are many walks. The website also mentions the Monteynard lake footbridges, the markets, the cruises aboard La Mira and the route des savoir-faire.
In winter, the campsite presents itself as a starting point for the resorts of Chamrousse, L’Alpe d’Huez and Les Deux Alpes, all cited as close to Vizille. The Uriage thermal baths, another possible outing, offer an option for a cold-season stay, and the château remains an off-season visit a short walk from the site.
Mobile homes open all year round; pitches, unusual accommodation and shared washrooms from 1 April to 31 October.
