L’Orée du Lac

L’Orée du Lac campsite is a small family-run site of 55 pitches, run by its owners, on Route du Barrage in Villerest, in the Loire. The centre of Roanne is 6 to 7 km away, under ten minutes by car, and the RN7 passes nearby. The site is rated 3 stars. It is not on the waterfront: it is located near Lake Villerest, which covers about 770 hectares, without being directly on it.

The pitches, marked out by hedges or low wooden walls, measure at least 80 m² and are spread across heavily shaded, partly shaded and sunny areas. The campsite also offers mobile homes of one to three bedrooms and two-bedroom wooden lodge tents, as well as a motorhome area with electricity. The management claims a quiet place, without noisy entertainment, appreciated by families, couples, hikers and cycle tourists.

Opening period: this is a seasonal campsite. It is advertised as open until September 20, 2026, with a spring opening around April (to be confirmed with the campsite). The heated pool is reserved for campsite guests. It is advertised as open from May 1, until the end of August or mid-September depending on the pages of the website, from 10am to 7pm in July and August and from 2pm to 7pm outside the high season. The bar, on a covered terrace, opens in the afternoons in high season and on weekends the rest of the time. Bread and pastries can be ordered almost every morning in high season.

The washrooms are cleaned every day. A heated, separate room is provided for people with reduced mobility, another is reserved for children, and a third is heated for the low seasons. A washing machine works with tokens, and wifi is offered. For motorhomes, there is a hard-standing area with electricity, drinking water and a waste-disposal point. The campsite also has a recycling area and a compost bin near the entrance.

On site, the offer remains simple: you can play pétanque on the dedicated court, ping-pong, or football on the playing field, while the little ones have their own area, under adult supervision. The rest happens around the campsite.

Lake Villerest, its beach and its dam are very close, with water sports and fishing. The Roanne area has about 1,100 km of mountain-bike routes and 83 hiking circuits, and the banks of the Loire are ideal for bike rides. Roanne offers its historic centre, shops and restaurants, while the Côte Roannaise has its vineyards and the characterful villages of the Roannais can be visited in a day.
