Camping du Vieux Moulin is located in Champdor-Corcelles, a small commune in the Haut-Bugey area of the Ain department, on the Hauteville plateau between Lyon and Geneva. At 834 m altitude, it covers just over 2 hectares on the edge of a forest, next to a fishing pond, a tennis court and a municipal bathing area. It belongs to the Haut-Bugey urban community, and the commune of Champdor manages it.
The site is rated 2 stars and offers 62 pitches, two of them accessible to people with reduced mobility. There are also two 55 m² wooden yurts for 6 people, three wooden pods for 3 people and a service area for motorhomes. Pets are accepted at no extra charge, and the campsite holds the Home Vélo label.
What sets the place apart is its opening period: the tourist offices and the accommodation listings state that guests are welcomed every day of the year, with no closure announced. Yurts and pods are electrically heated and equipped with wifi, so you can stay in the middle of winter, while the pitches remain open to motorhomes, caravans and tents all year round.
At this altitude, winter can be cold and snowy. The campsite highlights snowshoeing and sledging among its seasonal activities, and offers weekend packages in a yurt, from Friday 4pm to Sunday 10am.
Snowshoeing and sledging on the Hauteville plateau in winter, hiking and mountain biking the rest of the year.
The campsite relies on simple but complete facilities. The washrooms include showers, with hot water included in the rate, separate toilets and a dishwashing sink. A water point allows you to fill up, wifi is free and tourist information is available at reception. A common room and children’s play equipment complete the picture, and a service area for motorhomes is close to the pitches.
As for accommodation, the yurts offer 55 m² with two bedrooms, a bathroom, an equipped kitchenette (microwave, fridge, kettle, coffee machine), a living room with a raclette machine, a shaded terrace and bed linen provided; baby equipment can be requested. The pods are small, independent cabins made of natural materials, with a shower, heating, wifi and private parking; the shared washrooms are nearby. All of these units are heated, a clear advantage for autumn and winter stays.
For swimming, the campsite relies on the neighbouring leisure complex: the outdoor pool is free for campers in July and August, with lifeguard supervision. It is therefore not open off-season. In the village there is a grocery-bar, a postal agency and a petrol station open day and night, which makes stocking up easy all year round.
The Hauteville plateau is a playground for nature lovers. Hiking trails, mountain bike routes and cycle touring itineraries start from the campsite, and the Home Vélo label confirms that cyclists are welcome. On site there is a neighbouring fishing pond, a municipal tennis court with free access, table tennis and areas for ball sports. Children have a play area.
In summer, supervised swimming at the neighbouring complex is free for guests in July and August. The campsite also mentions water sports in the surrounding area, without giving details of where.
Off-season, the programme changes. The tourist offices mention winter sports, with snowshoeing and sledging, as well as hiking and mountain biking outside the snow periods. The campsite also offers short weekend stays in a yurt, handy for a nature escape from Lyon, Bourg-en-Bresse or neighbouring Switzerland. Touring cyclists passing through will also find a stopover with water, washrooms and free wifi. Prices remain modest: a pitch package for one person costs €8, and electricity is €6 per day.
Open all year round, every day, for pitches, yurts and pods; swimming in July and August.
