Seasonal campsite: our checks show it closes for several months a year. Check the opening dates before booking.
The Bourg-Charente campsite occupies a plot on the bank of the Charente, in the village of Bourg-Charente, in the heart of the Grande Champagne vineyards. Cognac is about 10 km away, and the village lies between Cognac and Angoulême. The address is Allée des Platanes, in a leafy setting where trees shade the pitches.
Rated 2 stars, the site offers around forty pitches, including eight mobile homes with two or three bedrooms. The pitches take tents, vans, motorhomes and single-axle caravans; since 2026, lodg’étapes have been added for hikers and cycle tourists, fitted-out tents without washroom for a maximum of 5 people. The campsite holds the Home Vélo label and connects to the Flow Vélo and the Tour Charente à vélo. A holiday let, Le Nid, completes the offer in Bourg-Charente.
Food is provided by a wood-fired pizzeria, which reopened on 1 May, and a snack bar open during the summer season.
Opening period: this is a seasonal campsite. It is announced from 3 April, the Easter weekend, to 29 November 2026, then closed during the winter. No stay offer from December to March is published on its website: for any enquiry outside these dates, it is best to call 06 15 16 67 82.
The facilities are simple and well kept. The washrooms have been renovated and include shower cubicles, individual washbasins, dishwashing sinks and an area adapted for people with reduced mobility. The accommodation is air-conditioned, and the campsite provides a launderette, a small grocery shop, wifi in a dedicated area and a service point for motorhomes. Every pitch can have an optional electrical hook-up, and a fridge, a freezer and a microwave are available for self-service.
Cyclists will find a covered room in which to eat under shelter, USB sockets, a corner for minor repairs, a secure bike rack and a charging point for electric bikes. Route information is handed out on arrival. As for food, the pizzeria makes artisan wood-fired pizzas, to take away or eat on site, and the snack bar offers salads, grilled dishes, sharing boards and homemade desserts in summer. There is no swimming pool on site: the river, a short walk away, serves as a playground, with canoes and paddleboards for hire.
On site, the pétanque court and outdoor games keep families busy, and themed music evenings punctuate the summer season. The Charente is the main activity: the campsite hires out canoes at €10 per person per half day and paddleboards at €10 per hour. A launching slipway is 100 m away, and fishing is popular there, with carp enduros organised every year.
The campsite is directly connected to the Flow Vélo and the Tour Charente à vélo. Electric bikes can be hired by the day or by the week, and the GR 4 crosses the region for walkers. The village of Bourg-Charente lies in the land of pineau, cognac and Grand Marnier, which gives the stay a flavour of the local terroir. The vines of the Grande Champagne stretch all around the village. These activities are mainly enjoyed from spring to autumn, during the opening season, from 3 April to 29 November 2026.
Seasonal campsite: open from 3 April to 29 November 2026 (official website), closed in winter.
