Seasonal campsite: our checks show it closes for several months a year. Check the opening dates before booking.
Camping Les Garennes sits in the heart of the seaside resort of Hauteville-sur-Mer, on the west coast of the Cotentin, in the Manche department. It stretches between dunes and pines, about a hundred metres from a fine sandy beach, and the shops of the town are within walking distance. Granville is a few kilometres to the south and Mont-Saint-Michel is about 1 hour 15 minutes by road.
Run by the municipality, the campsite is rated 2 stars. The operators’ website lists 104 pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes, as well as 12 mobile homes of 27 m² for rent (up to 6 people, two bedrooms, equipped kitchen, shower room, terrace). Two of them are accessible to people with reduced mobility, and dogs are allowed in the rental accommodation. On Sunday mornings, a large market with more than 130 traders is held in the resort.
Opening period: this is a seasonal campsite. Camping websites (Toocamp, camping-car.com) give an opening from 15 March to 15 November. The official website, however, states that the mobile homes are rented from 1 May to 30 September; where the two differ, that calendar applies to the rental accommodation. The campsite is therefore closed in winter, from mid-November to mid-March. Only a nearby group gîte, run by the same organisation, is advertised as open all year round, but it is not part of the campsite. For any off-season date, it is best to call 02 33 46 28 93.
The facilities are those of a municipal seaside campsite. There is a washing machine, washrooms adapted for people with reduced mobility, a communal barbecue (permitted), a playground and a pétanque court. A rotisserie operates in July and August. The mobile homes are heated and equipped with television and wifi, and baby equipment must be requested in advance. Pillows and blankets are not provided.
All the shops and restaurants of the resort are nearby. The campsite has no swimming pool: swimming is on the neighbouring beach, which is supervised in season.
On site, the pétanque court, the playground, table tennis and bingo evenings fill the days. Immediately nearby are a sailing school, a riding centre, a tennis club, a cinema and sports grounds. The municipality also offers longe-côte (coastal walking in the sea), walking and cycling routes, and the hire of bikes, tandems and rosalies.
Walks along the beach and through the dunes round off the programme. Mont-Saint-Michel, about 1 hour 15 minutes by road, makes a good day trip.
Seasonal campsite: open from 15 March to 15 November according to two websites, mobile home rentals from 1 May to 30 September according to the official website (dates to be confirmed with the campsite). Closed in winter.
