Overview

Camping Le Tréjeux is in Thônes, in Haute-Savoie, beside a small river, about 1.2 km from the town centre, the municipal swimming pool and the cinema. Annecy is 20 km away, the ski resorts of the Aravis massif 12 km and Geneva airport about an hour’s drive. Rated 2 stars, the site promotes a simple, family atmosphere on flat ground, partly shaded.

It offers pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes with a 10-amp electrical hook-up, and four kinds of rental accommodation: tiny houses, two-bedroom mobile homes, two-bedroom wooden chalets and simpler bungalows whose kitchenette has no running water. The La Popote restaurant is open to non-residents too, and a qualified mountain guide based at the campsite leads hikes.

As for opening, two periods need to be distinguished. According to the Thônes tourist office, the campsite, the motorhome pitches and most of the rental accommodation operate from 1 May to 30 September. In winter only four tiny houses are advertised as open, and the official website lists rentals for “summer and winter”: the tiny houses and the chalet are described there as usable in any season, whereas the mobile homes are presented as a summer option. The pitches are summer only.

Off-season, the campsite therefore suits mainly skiers heading for the Aravis and weekend stays in a tiny house; winter dates are not published and need to be confirmed on 07 64 16 25 83.

📶Free wifi

The pitches have an electrical hook-up, a shared room separate from the restaurant and renovated washrooms with hot water. Motorhome owners can empty their chemical toilet cassettes at the large washroom block, but filling up with water is not allowed: it is regulated in summer in Thônes, near the gendarmerie. A washing machine runs in summer, with tokens sold at reception, and a larger launderette is in town; clothes racks are lent on request. The wifi is free but limited, easier to pick up in the shared room and near the washrooms.

The tiny houses sleep two to four people, from €110 a night. They have an open mezzanine, a bedroom under the slope of the roof, a shower room, an equipped kitchen (hob, microwave, dishwasher, coffee machine) and a covered terrace with a pergola; bed linen and towels are provided. The published information does not mention heating: ask before a winter stay.

The La Popote restaurant serves Savoyard specialities and regional wines, with a relaxation area; its opening dates are not given. The campsite states that every building is accessible to people with reduced mobility. There is no swimming pool: the municipal pool in Thônes is 1.2 km away.

🥾Hiking

On site there are two playgrounds for young children, under parental supervision, plus a table tennis table at the entrance to the shared room, a pay-to-play table football, a petanque court beside the river and a boule de fort court. Fishing is possible in the Fier and, further afield, in Lake Annecy, where trout and pike are mentioned. Thônes also has a treetop adventure park.

The mountains are the main draw: Samuel, a qualified mountain guide based at the campsite, offers hikes for all levels, advertised all year round, in summer and in winter. The scenery can be explored between Lake Annecy, 20 km away, and the Aravis massif.

In winter, the Aravis ski resorts are 12 km away and the centre of Thônes, with its shops and cinema, 1.2 km. The tiny houses open in the cold season serve as a base for these outings, while the playground, the washing machine and fishing in the lake are more summer activities. Pets are accepted for one euro a day.
