Overview

The Lac et Montagnes municipal campsite is run by the commune of Verchaix, a flower-decked Savoyard village of about 760 inhabitants on the sunny side of the right bank of the Giffre valley, at an altitude of 666 m. It is 18 km to Cluses, 50 km to Geneva and 60 km to Annecy; the village lies between the Grand Massif ski area, on the Morillon and Samoëns side, and the Portes du Soleil, on the Morzine and Avoriaz side. The campsite is also very close to the Haut-Giffre tourist office.

According to Savoie Mont-Blanc Tourisme, the site has 104 classified pitches, six of them for motorhomes, over about two hectares, with rental accommodation whose exact number is not published by the town hall. The commune’s website states that the facilities are designed to welcome guests with disabilities, with an adapted washroom block. Pets are accepted, subject to confirmation with the town hall.

On opening, the town hall is clear: the campsite welcomes guests all year round, for short or long stays. Savoie Mont-Blanc Tourisme also lists daily opening in 2026. Reception publishes office hours that cover winter: from September to 18 December, then from 18 to 31 December, with late-morning and afternoon slots. The campsite does not announce any annual closure.

The tourist tax is €0.20 per day per person over 18, and the 2026 municipal rates are available on request from the site manager, by phone or email.

Facilities

🧺Washing machine
🧺Tumble dryer
🚙Motorhome service area
🎲Game room

The campsite works like a municipal facility: practical services rather than the offering of a holiday village. According to Savoie Mont-Blanc Tourisme, there is a washing machine and a tumble dryer, electric hook-ups, a children’s play area, a car park, a telephone point and an ice-cube area. A baby changing table is provided, and six pitches are reserved for motorhomes.

The site manager handles reception, with office hours that vary by month: longer in July and August, shorter outside summer, sometimes with only half a day per day and with days when the office is closed. It is therefore best to announce your arrival off-season, by phone on 09 66 88 10 12 or by email.

The town hall’s website says nothing about heating in the washrooms or the accommodation: this should be confirmed with the site manager before a winter stay. The town hall also makes no mention of an on-site swimming pool or restaurant; a tourist information sheet mentions a nearby municipal swimming pool and a takeaway food service, without the commune confirming it.

Nearby, the leisure area at Morillon’s Blue Lake, about 400 m away, offers swimming and leisure activities in summer. In the village, the post office agency and the town hall services are accessible, and the Haut-Giffre tourist office is next to the campsite.

The campsite’s main asset is its proximity to the snow. The Grand Massif ski area links five resorts, Morillon, Samoëns, Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval, Les Carroz and Flaine, with 265 km of slopes. Free shuttles serve the valley: the pink line stops in front of the tourist office, next to the campsite, and goes to the departure points of the Morillon gondola and the Grand Massif Express. Other free shuttles go to the Cirque du Fer-à-Cheval and to Joux Plane.

Cross-country skiers have the Haut-Giffre Nordic area, which starts at Morillon’s Blue Lake, 400 m from the campsite, and runs through Samoëns and Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval to the Cirque du Fer-à-Cheval, as well as the Joux Plane site, at an altitude of 1,690 m.

In summer, the commune mentions the leisure area at Morillon’s Blue Lake with its treetop adventure course, riding centre and swimming, a mini-golf, an inflatable play park, pétanque and tennis courts, rafting, walks or bike rides along the Giffre, hiking trailheads and river fishing.

The full programme of visits, trails and events can be found on the Haut-Giffre tourist office website, which the town hall recommends consulting.
