Nouvelle-Aquitaine has 55 listed campsites, 22 of them with verified off-season opening: only these are presented here as open all year round. The rest are split between seasonal addresses and campsites whose winter opening is not confirmed. The Gironde, the Landes, Charente-Maritime, the Charente, the Vienne, the Creuse, the Deux-Sèvres and the Corrèze account for most of these addresses, and a seasonal municipal campsite is found in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques.
On the coast, the Gironde has six verified campsites: Huttopia Arcachon keeps its chalets and its wooden caravans open all year round, ten minutes on foot from the Ville d’Hiver. Charente-Maritime has three: on Oléron, Les Cercelles heats its washrooms with wood, and Au Petit Port, in L’Houmeau, rents heated mobile homes a few kilometres from La Rochelle, while the covered pool at Les Cercelles remains accessible during the winter school holidays. In the Landes, three verified campsites, including Les Échasses in Gastes and Les Chalets d’Uza, mostly rent fixed accommodation among pines and lakes.
North of the city, Bordeaux Lac welcomes guests all year round in Bruges, and Le Pressoir offers rentals in the middle of the Libournais vineyards. In the Vienne, Le Futuriste has a covered pool heated until 1 November, opposite the Futuroscope park. The Deux-Sèvres have two verified addresses, La Chagnée and Les Chalets de l’Héronnière, both focused on wooden accommodation; La Chagnée heats its pools to 28 °C and L’Héronnière has a heated covered pool in season.
The Charente has three verified addresses, including La Forêt de Tessé and Camping de la Rivière, on the Vienne. In the Creuse, La Semnadisse and Le Puy de Faux bank on calm and starry skies. The Corrèze has only one, La Belle Étoile, near Argentat. At Saint-Médard-de-Guizières, in the Gironde, and at Boyardville, on Oléron, the campsite closes in winter: only the motorhome area stays open; these two addresses are among the 22 verified, but are not suitable for tents.
Distinguish between pitch, rental and motorhome area, as dates often differ within the same campsite. Pool, restaurant and washrooms have their own seasons: ask about them before booking, as well as about heating in the accommodation. For a family stay with children, note that clubs, entertainment and outdoor pools follow the summer calendar, while walks on the beach, in the forest or on the plateaus remain possible in winter; pitches and restaurants have their own dates.
Off-season, the region is best discovered through its landscapes and cities. Bordeaux can be visited in a day from Bruges, with the Cité du vin and the quays, and Saint-Émilion is about fifteen minutes from Le Pressoir. In Arcachon, a stroll around the harbour and the Ville d’Hiver replaces swimming; the Dune du Pilat is only about ten kilometres away. La Rochelle, less than 5 km from L’Houmeau, offers an aquarium and museums, and Oléron has cycle paths, salt marshes, oysters and the Chassiron lighthouse.
Inland, canoeing down the Vienne draws visitors in the Charente, the Millevaches plateau is classified as an international dark sky reserve, and the Dordogne gorges can be reached from the Corrèze. Futuroscope, near Poitiers, is opposite Le Futuriste, whose reception sells tickets.
Every open all year round campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.
We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.
