Seasonal campsite: our checks show it closes for several months a year. Check the opening dates before booking.
The Chaux municipal campsite is in Sornac, in the Haute-Corrèze, beside the Étang des Chaux. It is a wooded municipal site with 25 pitches spread over four hectares, in a quiet, natural setting. The pitches are not marked out: the space stays open, which gives a nature-campsite feel that passing visitors appreciate.
The site welcomes tents, caravans and motorhomes. Motorhome owners can empty their waste water and refill with water and electricity free of charge. Other sources also mention bungalows and municipal gîtes nearby, to be requested from the town hall. The pond beach is 50 metres away and the sports and leisure park is right next door.
Opening period: the municipality states “from late March to early January”. The campsite is therefore closed for about three months, from January to late March, and is not suitable for a stay in the depths of winter. To find out the exact opening and closing dates for the current year, it is best to call the town hall.
The fee is €7 per night per person, with or without electricity, free for children under 11, or €35 per week per person. The tourist tax is added at €0.20 per adult per night. Holiday vouchers (chèques-vacances) are accepted.
As for washrooms, the showers are spread over several blocks, one of which is adapted for people with reduced mobility. In summer, a washing machine can be used during reception hours, at €3 per wash. A storage pitch for an unused caravan (“garage mort”) can be rented by the night: €4.20 in high season and €2.60 from 1 September to 30 June.
Barbecues are allowed on the site and pets are admitted, on a lead. Reception is handled by the town hall, on 05 55 94 61 27. You can pay for your stay by cheque, in cash or with holiday vouchers.
Swimming is at the pond beach, 50 metres from the site. In summer, inflatable games, including paddleboards, are lent free of charge to children, under the parents’ responsibility. A small children’s play area completes the picture. No restaurant or shop is listed at the campsite: shopping is done in the shops of the nearby village of Sornac.
The sports and leisure park next to the campsite has a city-stade (multi-sport court), a table football and a table tennis table. Children have a small play area, and the Étang des Chaux beach is a meeting point in summer.
Fishing is possible on the pond: the day fishing permit is sold in the village shops. The campsite also presents itself as a starting point for hikes, mountain bike rides and other outdoor sports in the surrounding area, in the heart of the Haute-Corrèze.
Sornac is a small municipality in the Haute-Corrèze, with a hilly landscape of woods, meadows and ponds. The Haute-Corrèze tourist office lists other trails and sites to visit for a day out in the area. As the campsite is only open from late March to early January, these activities are mostly enjoyed from spring to autumn; the paddleboards and inflatable games, for their part, are only lent in summer. For entertainment and guided tours, ask the town hall.
