Overview

Domaine EcÔtelia covers about ten hectares in Le Nizan, in the south of the Gironde, close to Sauternes and near the Landes de Gascogne nature park. The landscape alternates open meadows and forest, and the site is rated 4 stars and holds the European Ecolabel.

Here, the website shows no bare pitches, only unusual accommodation, presented as a trip around the world without leaving Aquitaine. The site advertises 26 units inspired by the five continents: treehouses (a castle in the trees, a palombière, a temple with a Nordic bath), wooden caravans, yurts, pods inspired by English shepherd’s huts, safari tents, bubbles and oenolodges, lodges devoted to the wine of the neighbouring Graves and Sauternes areas. Published rates start at around €65 a night for a pod.

The domaine presents itself as open all year round, and a 2026 booking calendar runs from 1 January to 31 December. The campsite does not announce an annual closure. Off-season, the place mainly appeals to couples and friends on a weekend break: the wellness area is open 7 days a week, several units have a private spa heated to 38 °C or a Nordic bath, and the palombière has electric heating. There is no Wi-Fi in the accommodation, by choice, but it is available free of charge in the communal areas.

The domaine emphasises disconnecting and observing nature: forest, wildlife, flora, starry skies and, in spring, the tree frogs’ mating season.

The wellness area, called Les 5 Sens, is open 7 days a week, including to guests from outside the domaine. You book private access for 1 hr 30 for at least two people, at €30 per person, in slots from 9:30am to 7pm, with a maximum of six people per slot. It includes an outdoor sauna in a wooden cabin (about 85 °C), an indoor hammam (about 50 °C, eucalyptus steam), a south-facing solarium and a lounge with a herbal tea bar. Access is forbidden to under-18s. A massage menu is offered from €50.

Several units have their own hot bath: a jacuzzi heated to 38 °C in the oenolodges, and a Nordic bath in the Canadian trapper’s cabin and in the temple in the trees, which you can heat by lighting a wood fire yourself.

For meals, the domaine has no à la carte restaurant: it offers picnic baskets from €15 (to be ordered 24 hours ahead, some are available straight away), aperitif baskets, a lounge bar called L’Escale, near the natural pool, and a private kota grill for barbecues. A communal kitchen also lets you prepare your own meals. The bike rental provider delivers bikes to the door of your accommodation, from €12. Baby equipment (high chair, travel cot) is free. Swimming is in a natural pool, whose opening dates are not specified.

The domaine offers a stay guide, the Guide d’Escale, which sorts ideas into four categories: recharge, discover, get active and escape. For relaxation, there is swimming in the natural pool, hammocks, forest therapy and a paid wellness area. For the curious, there is wildlife and plant observation, aromatic herbs and stargazing.

The more active have a treasure hunt in the forest, a hiking trail, wooden hut building and sporting challenges: mölkky, table tennis, volleyball and badminton. A play area with a trampoline, volleyball net, table tennis table and a large green space welcomes children. Cani-rando, a walk with a dog, and bike rental are paid activities.

Off-season, the forest, walks and wellness area remain on the programme, and the themed wellness stays with a massage or candlelit dinner are designed for romantic weekends. The neighbouring vineyards of the Graves and Sauternes areas are a natural place to visit, as the domaine is labelled Vignobles et Découvertes according to another website. For bikes, a local provider organises transport on site.
