The Allochon municipal campsite occupies the bank of the Gartempe, beside a stream, in Montmorillon, in the Vienne. It is at 31 avenue Fernand Tribot, close to the town centre, so you can walk to the Cité de l’Écrit et des Métiers du Livre, the museums and the shops. The setting is shady and peaceful, and the site is run directly by the town.
The site has 70 marked, grassy, lit and partly shaded pitches, some level, others sloping, with electrical hook-ups for European plugs. Dogs and cats are allowed, but twin-axle caravans are not. The reception office is open every day, from 9am to 12pm and from 3pm to 7pm.
Opening period: the town announces that the pitches are open from 15 March to 15 October. On the other hand, since 1 April 2024, three permanent units have been available to rent all year round: a chalet for 2 to 4 people accessible to people with reduced mobility, a chalet for 4 to 6 people and a wooden caravan for 2 people. They are booked by phone on 06 14 88 43 99.
Off-season, the campsite is therefore aimed at those looking for solid accommodation for a weekend, a cultural stay in Montmorillon or a business trip, but not at tents and caravans, which must wait for the reopening in March.
Visits to Montmorillon and the Cité de l’Écrit, museums, bookshops, Wednesday morning market, walks along the Gartempe.
The campsite offers the facilities of a well-kept municipal site. The washrooms include free hot showers, a washing machine and washrooms adapted for people with reduced mobility. The pitches are accessible to these people, electricity is available, and wifi is free on site. At reception, a games room with a television makes it possible to get together on rainy days, and barbecues, wooden tables and benches are set up for outdoor meals.
The permanent units are described in downloadable inventories on the town’s website: a chalet for 4 people with an accessible bathroom, a chalet for 6 people and a wooden caravan for 2 people. Some of these sheets specify the equipment of each unit, and a 2026 welcome booklet gathers the practical information. For July and August 2026, the chalets are only rented from three nights, by phone or via the online booking module.
Around the campsite, the town’s services are within reach: supermarkets on the outskirts, restaurants, cafés, shops and a weekly market on Wednesday morning in the centre. The aquatic centre, with an outdoor pool, indoor pools and a slide, is about 50 metres from the site.
Within the campsite, children have outdoor games, and adults have a table tennis table, a pétanque area and access to fishing. The neighbouring aquatic centre, about 50 metres away, complements these leisure options with its outdoor pool, indoor pools and slide.
In town, everything can be discovered on foot: the tourist office, the historic monuments, the museum of art and history, the macaron museum and the museum of the typewriter and calculator, the media library and the cinema. The Cité de l’Écrit et des Métiers du Livre brings together many bookshops and book craftspeople in the historic heart of Montmorillon.
On the outskirts, there are tennis courts, a mini-golf, a skate park, a city stadium, an equestrian centre and signposted walking trails. Within thirty minutes, the region offers climbing, canoeing and kayaking, rail biking, the UNESCO-listed Saint-Savin abbey and the valley of the frescoes. Off-season, a stay in one of the permanent units is mainly filled by cultural visits, bookshops and walks along the Gartempe.
