The Burgundy-Franche-Comté region has 36 listed campsites, 15 of them with verified off-season opening: these are the only ones presented here as open all year round. The Nièvre has 7, the Yonne 6, the Côte-d’Or, the Doubs, the Jura and the Saône-et-Loire 5 each, the Haute-Saône 3. The Doubs stands out: 4 of its 5 campsites are verified, compared with 2 out of 7 in the Nièvre. Of the other 21, 5 close for several months and 16 announce off-season opening that we have not confirmed.
The mountains remain the obvious choice for snow. In Mouthe, the Camping de la Source du Doubs faces the slopes and heats its washrooms; at Le Larmont, in Pontarlier, the chalets are open all year round, with a short break at the start of the year. In the Jura, only the motorhome service area in Foncine-le-Haut operates in winter, with its pitches closed from October to April.
The valleys offer gentler stopovers. On the Loue, Les Promenades in Quingey welcomes pitches and lodge tents without a break; in Ranchot, the Camping de l’Île stays open with no closure, on the EuroVelo 6 route. In the Saône-et-Loire, Les 2 Rives and Les Voiles de Laives keep both their pitches and their rentals open all year round. In the Morvan, Plage du Midi offers a heated indoor pool and sauna near Lac des Settons, while L’Étang de la Fougeraie closes its rentals in February. Further north, Beauséjour in Sergines and Le Bois Guillaume in Villeneuve-les-Genêts complete the Yonne’s offer.
In several verified campsites, only the rentals open in winter: this is the case at Le Bois Guillaume, La Fougeraie, the Domaine d’Aucroix and the Camping du Marais, whose wooden caravans are let all year round. Seasonal addresses, such as La Pierre in the Haute-Saône or Le Hameau des Grilles in the Yonne, suit spring and autumn better.
First decide on the type of stay: snow in the Jura and the Doubs, Morvan lakes, valleys by bike, cultural break. Then ask for the precise dates, the heating of washrooms and accommodation, snow clearing of the pitches and the distance to the slopes. For campsites whose off-season opening remains to be confirmed, call before you set out. Book early for the February holidays and long weekends.
The region is well worth visiting off-season. Facing the Source du Doubs, you can enjoy downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, biathlon and sledging; around Pontarlier, the Nordic sites of the Grand Pontarlier and the resorts of Les Fourgs and Métabief are not far. In the Haut-Jura, Foncine-le-Haut offers cross-country skiing on four sites and a drag lift from December to March, depending on snow cover.
Further down, the Royal Saltworks of Arc-et-Senans, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the citadel of Besançon can be discovered away from the crowds from Quingey. The EuroVelo 6 runs along the Doubs at Baume-les-Dames and Ranchot, and the Chaux forest and the Morvan Regional Natural Park can be explored on foot. Around Lac des Settons, a 15 km path circles the water. In the Yonne, the château of Saint-Fargeau and the Camille Claudel museum in Nogent-sur-Seine can also be visited in autumn and spring.
Every open all year round campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.
We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.
