Three campsites are listed in the Haute-Saône, in Franche-Comté, only one of them with verified off-season opening. It is a small département, but it offers stopovers on the banks of the Saône and deep in the countryside for anyone looking for a campsite open all year round, away from the crowds.
The Saône Valley, in Traves, is the only campsite in the département whose off-season opening is verified. This three-star estate of ten heated chalets on the banks of the Saône welcomes guests all year round, with no announced closure, although the exact dates are to be confirmed. Long-stay promotions are offered from January to March and from late September to November. The private spa and sauna stay open until 31 December, and the restaurant serves a winter menu. Licence-free boats and canoes round off the offer in the warmer months, and there is a bar-restaurant on site.
In Port-sur-Saône, the Camping communautaire La Maladière occupies an island surrounded by ponds and forest. It advertises opening from 2 January to 22 December, but we were unable to confirm it: call before travelling in the depths of winter. In Mélisey, the municipal campsite La Pierre closes for several months. It is a spring, summer and autumn address, with 1.5 hectares of peace and quiet, two wooden chalets, Campanule and Edelweiss, rented separately, and a sanitary cabin fitted out for people with disabilities. Rates remain modest: 4 € per pitch, 4 € per adult and 2 € per child under 7. If you are torn between these two addresses, La Maladière has the advantage of a much wider advertised opening period than La Pierre.
In a département with so few options, booking and calling ahead are essential. Ask whether heating is included in the chalet, whether the washrooms are accessible in winter and whether the restaurant is open. Favour heated rental accommodation for a stay from January to March, and keep the pitches for the shoulder seasons.
From Traves, walks along the banks of the Saône are possible all year round, and the estate’s restaurant serves a winter menu, while the spa and sauna extend the relaxation until the end of December. In Port-sur-Saône, the island of La Maladière gives access to the swimming pool of the neighbouring leisure centre, free for campers, and to a setting of ponds and forest ideal for strolls. The 2026 rates advertised there are 2.60 € per pitch, 2.60 € per adult and 1.30 € per child, which makes it an economical stopover for a short stay. In Mélisey, the La Pierre campsite suits those seeking silence, with no entertainment programme, in spring or autumn, with its two wooden chalets and the surrounding trails, in a rural and green setting.
Every open all year round campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.
We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.
