Plage du Midi

Camping Plage du Midi occupies the right bank of the Lac des Settons, in the commune of Montsauche-les-Settons, in the Nièvre. The site lies at an altitude of 600 metres, in the heart of the Morvan regional nature park; the lake is held back by a stone dam built in 1858, which the establishment presents as unique in France.

Rated 3 stars, the campsite has 104 pitches with electricity, 10 of them accessible to people with reduced mobility. On the rental side, there are 24 chalets, a holiday-home chalet named Élégance for large groups, four wooden caravans and a treehouse. It claims an international environmental label obtained in 2022, and the owners, present on site day and night, speak English.

On opening, the website publishes a calendar covering the whole year: winter season from 4 November 2025 to 4 April 2026, low season from 5 April to 3 July and from 30 August to 20 October 2026, high season from 4 July to 29 August. Outside summer, reception is open from 9am to 12pm and from 2pm to 6pm, washrooms and showers are heated, and only some of the rentals, including the Élégance holiday home, stay open all winter. The current status of each facility (snack bar, grocery, sauna) is displayed on the website.

The washrooms, showers and baby bathroom are heated, a useful point as soon as nights turn cooler at altitude. A laundry with washing machine and dryer is available, and reception provides a mail service from 9am to 6pm. For people with reduced mobility, the campsite lists a chalet with an adapted bathroom, two adapted washrooms and ten reserved pitches.

On site there is a general store with local produce, bread, gas, souvenirs and beach items. The snack bar prepares hamburgers, sandwiches, salads, chips, waffles and ice creams, and the bar, with a terrace and a fireplace, lends board games, shows broadcasts on a big screen and hosts music evenings. The free wifi is limited to the bar and its terrace, and two communal barbecues are available.

For water and relaxation, a heated indoor pool with a hot tub complements swimming in the lake, where a landscaped beach is free of charge. Pedalos can be hired on site. The chalet “La parenthèse enchantée” houses a sauna, a hammam and a herbal tea room, with its own website. The campsite calendar specifies, period by period, what is open: in low season, the bar welcomes guests from 9am to 12pm and from 2pm to 6pm, while the snack bar, grocery and sauna may be closed.

Within the campsite grounds, you can play pétanque, volleyball and table tennis, try your hand at billiards or darts, and two play areas await the children. A multisports area, the City Stade, completes the set. In high season, musicians entertain at the bar on Wednesday and Saturday evenings, with a free salsa introduction.

Around the lake, several providers offer outings: the tour boat Les Settons runs a commentated tour of the lake, the Activital base hires out sailing boats, canoes, kayaks and paddleboards with a discount pass for campsite residents, and the GlissLand base offers jet skis, towed rings, blob jump, water jump and flyboard. About ten minutes away, Cap Xtrem organises quad or 4×4 trips, an adventure course and rafting. Fishing and cycling are also mentioned.

For walkers, the “red line” follows the lake for 15 kilometres, about four hours of walking among the fauna, flora and landscapes of the Morvan. Other signposted trails, suitable for walking, mountain biking or horse riding, start from the area. These walks and fishing do not depend on the tourist season: they also suit shoulder-season stays, as long as you check the opening dates of the water sports providers, which vary.
