Five campsites are listed in the Jura, two of them with verified off-season opening. Only those are presented as open all year round, and their profiles are very different: a valley campsite on the EuroVelo 6 and a motorhome service area at the foot of the slopes.
In Ranchot, between the Doubs and the Rhine-Rhône canal, the Camping de l’Île is a three-star site open all year round, with no closure and heated washrooms. Mobile homes, chalets and cyclo-tents sit alongside the pitches; the site holds the Home Vélo label and Ranchot station is 200 m away. The restaurant only serves from late June to late August, but it organises themed evenings out of season, such as St Patrick’s Day or Beaujolais night. Reception is open from 9am to noon and from 2pm to 7pm: let them know if you will arrive later.
In Foncine-le-Haut, the Camping municipal du Val de Saine is a three-star site on the banks of the Saine. Note that its pitches are only open from 1 May to 30 September. Only the motorhome service area stays open all year round, making it a winter stopover for motorhome crews, close to a family ski resort. The campsite has 49 level pitches in the heart of the village and is a stage on the Échappée jurassienne and the Grande Traversée du Jura.
The Domaine du Bugnon, at an altitude of 1,000 m in Lac-des-Rouges-Truites, offers a dome and a yurt heated by wood stoves, but its off-season opening dates remain to be confirmed. The estate also has an infrared sauna, two tennis courts and a restaurant, La Table du Bugnon, open from Wednesday to Sunday evening by reservation. The same goes for the Frasnois municipal campsite and for Le Marais, in Bonlieu: check with the campsite before booking in winter.
At altitude, snow conditions determine access: ask whether the pitches are cleared of snow and whether heating is provided. For a winter stay on a pitch, the Camping de l’Île remains the safest option; book as soon as your dates are fixed.
From Ranchot, you can ride the EuroVelo 6, pick mushrooms in season in the Chaux forest and drive to Besançon, Dole and Arbois. In Foncine-le-Haut, from December to March depending on snow cover, the village offers downhill skiing on a drag lift, cross-country skiing on four sites and snowshoeing; slope conditions and a webcam can be checked on the village website. At the Bugnon, the Les Rousses slopes are a quarter of an hour away, with snowshoe and sledge hire in winter. The Haut-Jura is therefore well suited to a snow break without downhill skiing, combining snowshoeing, sledging and a sauna on your return, while the Doubs valley is better for cycling and visits to towns such as Besançon or Dole.
Every open all year round campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.
We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.
