The Centre-Val de Loire region has 28 listed campsites, 6 of which have a verified off-season opening: these are the only ones presented here as open all year round. Four others close for several months, and 18 announce an opening that we have not been able to confirm. The Indre (8 campsites) and the Loiret (6) concentrate the verified addresses, with four and two respectively; the Indre-et-Loire has 5, the Cher 4, the Eure-et-Loir 3 and the Loir-et-Cher 2, with no verified opening.
In the Indre, four addresses stay open all year. In Châteauroux, Le Rochat Belle-Isle is open from 1 January to 31 December, beside the river. In Chaillac, the Les Vieux Chênes municipal campsite rents chalets and mobile homes by the week, with optional heating from November to March. Les Chambons, in Argenton-sur-Creuse, advertises pitches and rental accommodation as open all year, to be confirmed. In Sarzay, La Ferme d’Hélice keeps its gîtes open in winter, with an open fire, while its campsite closes from October to mid-May.
The Loiret contributes two verified campsites: Le Jardin de Sully, in Saint-Père-sur-Loire, open 365 days a year facing the château of Sully, and Le Clos des Tourterelles, in Bouzonville-aux-Bois, whose rental accommodation runs all year round. In Touraine, Les Acacias advertises year-round opening on the edge of Tours, to be confirmed, while Tours Val de Loire is open only from 20 March to 1 November. In the Cher, the Eure-et-Loir and the Loir-et-Cher, there is no verified address: call before you travel.
At several of these campsites, the off-season opening applies to the rental accommodation, not to the facilities: the pool at Le Jardin de Sully only operates in July and August, and the one at Le Clos des Tourterelles from mid-May to mid-September. Val Vert en Berry, in La Châtre, and the Village Loisirs de Goule, in the Cher, are fine-weather addresses.
First choose your playground: cycling along the Loire, hiking in the Berry, a stopover on the way to Paris. Then ask for the exact dates, the heating of the washrooms and accommodation, and whether reception is staffed off-season. Book directly with the campsite.
Off-season, the region is explored along its routes and open sites. From Saint-Père-sur-Loire, the château of Sully, the Forêt d’Orléans and the abbey of Saint-Benoît-sur-Loire can be visited all year, as can the châteaux of Gien and the Loire for those staying in Bouzonville-aux-Bois.
In the Berry, the Balsan’éo pool in Châteauroux is open all year, the George Sand museum in La Châtre welcomes visitors, and Chaillac offers 100 km of trails and a horse fair on the second Saturday of October. The Beauval zoo is less than an hour from Châteauroux.
In Argenton-sur-Creuse, Les Chambons has pétanque, table tennis, a trampoline and a playground accessible all year round, and the neighbouring trails invite walks in the Berry. In La Châtre, near Sarzay, the Saturday market enlivens the town centre, and the gîtes of the Ferme d’Hélice offer an open fire after the day’s walks. The free buses in Châteauroux serve the centre from Le Rochat.
Every open all year round campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.
We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.
