Four campsites are listed in the Cher, in the Centre-Val de Loire region, and none currently has verified off-season opening. We therefore cannot present any of them as open all year round: one announces year-round opening that is unconfirmed, two close for several months and one does not operate its pitches this year. This département of the Berry, with its forests, ponds and Loire riverbanks, nonetheless lends itself to quiet stopovers in the low season, provided you check each address by phone.
In Beffes, on the banks of the Loire, the VéloCamping de Chabrolles-Beffes, two stars, states that it operates all year round. This small campsite of 14 pitches and 9 rentals is 400 metres from the village and ten minutes from the A77. It is designed for a stopover of one night, a weekend or a week, and offers a bungalow adapted for guests with reduced mobility. We were unable to confirm its dates: call before a winter trip.
In Saint-Martin-d’Auxigny, near the Étang de la Salle, the Camping municipal des Plantes is not operating its pitches in 2026. Only its chalets are still rented, through Gîtes de France or Berry Province, from €225 a week outside school holidays. It is therefore not an address for pitching a tent, but an option for a stay in solid accommodation beside a lake.
The Village Loisirs de Goule, in Bessais-le-Fromental, closes for several months: it is a fine-weather address, with lodges, tipis and chalets on 250 hectares. The GAEC Picq et Fille, in Bannegon, announces activity from early spring to the end of October, on a farm near the Canal de Berry.
Favour rental accommodation for a winter stay and ask whether the washrooms and the accommodation are heated. If you are travelling by bike or on foot, also check the stopover facilities along the Loire and the Canal de Berry. Book and call the campsite before you leave: the Cher does not yet have a campsite with verified opening on this portal.
Out of season, the Cher is best discovered on foot or by bike. In Beffes, the VéloCamping lies on the Loire, geared to cycle tourists, and cultural, industrial and sports visits can be found within a 30 km radius. In Bannegon, the Canal de Berry and the Way of St James pilgrim routes pass close to the farm.
In Saint-Martin-d’Auxigny, the Étang de la Salle offers a peaceful setting for a quiet getaway. Further south, the Goule estate, between Bourges, Montluçon and Nevers, extends over 250 hectares around a sailing lake; it opens mainly in the warmer months, with its sailing club, kayak outings and the digital treasure hunt Berry Explor Game. In Bannegon, the farm has a private pool for the summer.
Every open all year round campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.
We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.
You book directly with the campsite, no middleman or hidden markup. The price shown is the price you pay.
