The Les Frênes municipal campsite is on the route de l’Augère in Neuvy-Saint-Sépulchre (36230), in the Boischaut Sud, about 15 km from La Châtre and 30 km from Châteauroux. Created in 1996 on the edge of an artificial lake, 700 m from the village, it has 35 partly shaded pitches and has been rated two stars since 10 October 2022. The commune highlights calm, rest and relaxation, as well as a village with shops, a medical centre, a post office and a basilica listed by UNESCO along with the Camino de Santiago routes.
The site offers 18 comfort pitches for caravans, 3 large comfort pitches and 14 pitches for tents. The caravan pitches have an electric hook-up and a water point. Two bungalows for eight people, each with four bedrooms and electric heating, are available to rent.
Opening period: according to the latest viewable version of the commune’s website (dated 2023), the campsite is announced as open from 15 June to 15 September, with bungalow rental listed as “all year round”. The rates distinguish a season from 15 June to 31 August and a low season from 1 May to 14 June and from 1 to 30 September. As this information is old and the website is no longer accessible, the actual opening dates and the possibility of staying in winter are to be confirmed with the town hall or the campsite, on 06 73 31 17 52.
Reception is open from 9am to 10.30am and from 2pm to 8.30pm. The washroom block is equipped for people with reduced mobility, hot showers are included in the price, and a washing machine and a dryer are available. Wifi is accessible, and a children’s play area completes the facilities.
The air-conditioned recreational pool, with a 6 m by 12 m basin that is 1.20 m deep, is reserved for campers during reception hours. It is open to the public from 3pm to 7pm every day except Monday, under the supervision of a qualified lifeguard, and swimming lessons are possible. The pool is announced as open from 1 July to 31 August. Changing cubicles, showers and toilets, including one accessible to disabled visitors, go with it.
The bungalows have an equipped kitchen corner, a bathroom with washbasin, shower and toilet, and garden furniture. Sheets are provided for weekly rentals and offered as an option for a night or a weekend; blankets, duvets and pillows are provided whatever the length of stay. Holiday vouchers (chèques-vacances) and bank cards are accepted.
The neighbouring lake appeals to anglers: it is classed first category and holds river fish such as gudgeon, perch and a few trout, as well as coarse fish, carp and roach. Fishing permits are available from some shopkeepers, and swimming is prohibited. The Bouzanne river runs through the area.
Two short walking circuits are offered, with maps at the campsite reception. In the village, the 12th and 13th-century basilica can be visited freely every day from 8am to 7pm, and an orchard conserves old apple varieties. The market is held every Sunday morning on the Place de la Mairie, and the Journées de la Pomme (Apple Days) took place at the end of October in 2022.
Many other sites and remains are mentioned in the surrounding area. Event dates and visiting hours change from year to year: to be checked with the town hall.
