The Pays de la Loire has 39 listed campsites, 24 of them with verified off-season opening. Two others are seasonal, and thirteen remain to be confirmed with their operator: you cannot count on winter opening there without calling first. The Vendée has 18 of them, the Sarthe 9, and Maine-et-Loire and Mayenne 6 each.
On the Atlantic coast, few campsites stay fully open: Villa Campista and the Domaine des Pins, in Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez, rent heated accommodation or rentals all year, and La Grisse, in Le Givre, offers heated mobile homes and also takes pitches, ten minutes from the beaches of La Tranche. Villa Campista is 6 km from the beaches of Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez. Inland, the rule is the chalet: La Rivière in Sainte-Cécile and Les Ouches du Jaunay in Martinet remain rented out through the winter. Several sites, such as L’Ambois or La Venise du Bocage, mainly welcome long stays in winter. As for pools, Les Charmes, Le Trèfle à 4 feuilles and Les Rulières offer a heated indoor pool from April to autumn.
Along the river, Terre de Loire in La Ménitré caters to Loire à Vélo cyclists, while La Bradière in Savennières is fifteen minutes from Angers. In the Layon, La Coudraye offers four chalets all year, and Les Logis de l’Oumois, in Maulévrier, welcomes guests in rental accommodation, with a break for tents and caravans from 1 December to 1 March.
The Sarthe has the most complete addresses: La Sittelle in Loué and Smile et Braudières in Mézières-sous-Lavardin announce no closure. Le Sans Souci, in Fresnay, and the Domaine du Houssay, in Spay, rent chalets in winter but close their pitches. In Mayenne, Les Rivières in Daon, the Camping municipal du Bac in Ménil and the Village Vacances et Pêche in Villiers-Charlemagne share river and lake.
A mention of “open all year” does not apply to every type of accommodation: compare the opening dates for pitches, chalets and pools. Start with the type of accommodation: here, rental accommodation is accessible far more often than a bare pitch. Then ask for the exact dates, the heating, and whether the pool is open. For a year-end stay or school holidays, book early, as chalets are few. See the page for each département for details of campsites and dates.
Two cycling routes shape the area off-season: the Loire à Vélo, accessible from La Ménitré, and the Vélo Francette, along the Mayenne. The Sarthe adds the Alpes Mancelles and the Bercé forest, and the Layon vineyards can be explored on foot or by mountain bike.
There is no shortage of indoor outings: Terra Botanica, 15 minutes from Savennières, during the All Saints’ holidays, the Château de Saumur, the Cité Plantagenêt in Le Mans, or the troglodyte Christmas market in Doué-en-Anjou. In the Vendée, the Puy du Fou is about 25 km from Sainte-Cécile and an hour from Apremont, and the Marais poitevin and the abbeys of Maillezais and Nieul-sur-l’Autise are within reach from Saint-Valérien. In La Roche-sur-Yon, the Vendéspace hosts indoor competitions, and in Commequiers the château and the rail bikes can be visited off-season.
Every open all year round campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.
We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.
