Camping La Cascade is set on a farm at La Brouillerie, in Ernée, in Mayenne. It is run by Angélique and Serge, who welcome travellers among the farm animals and a few more exotic ones, in a quiet setting. Ernée is about 20 minutes from Fougères and an hour from Mont-Saint-Michel.
The site is aimed at motorhomes, motorcyclists and walkers or cyclists: it is a stopover for a night or more, rather than a campsite for a long stay. A pitch for a motorhome, caravan or tent is advertised at 18 € a night, all inclusive, with a fridge and freezer available free of charge. Pets are accepted at no extra cost, kept on a lead so as not to disturb the farm animals.
For those who prefer a roof, the farm also offers a furnished and equipped gîte sleeping up to four people, as well as a mobile home available for rent since November 2020. Payment is by cheque or cash.
Opening period: no opening or closing dates are published on the campsite website. Off-season opening is therefore not established: to stay in autumn or winter, you need to call 06 58 51 06 19 or 02 43 05 87 51 before coming.
Facilities remain simple, as you would expect of a farm campsite. The rate of 18 € a night includes the pitch and water, and a fridge and a freezer are available free of charge to campers. Cassette toilets can be emptied, and dry toilets are installed for some busy weekends. Arrival is possible at any hour, provided other campers’ sleep is respected.
The website highlights the furnished, fully equipped gîte for up to four people and the mobile home, both bookable on request. No restaurant, swimming pool or grocery store is mentioned on site; the neighbouring town of Ernée has a water park, a fitness centre and shops.
The main activity is farm life: travellers rub shoulders with the farm’s animals and enjoy a garden, a rose garden and an aviary, which the website’s photo album shows in summer and in winter. Local produce is also showcased there.
Around the campsite, the Raymond Demy motocross track is about two minutes away, and 1.2 km on foot according to the website, which attracts enthusiasts at major events. In Ernée you can also visit the Charné chapel and the church of Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption, five minutes away, discover more than twenty-six statues by Louis Derbré, see the Dolmen de la Contrie, walk or fish around the lake, and reach the Les Bizeuls leisure park, the forest and the peat bog.
Further afield, the towpath is good for walking or cycling, Pontmain and its Marian city are close, Fougères is 20 minutes away, the Gallo-Roman town of Jublains 40 minutes, the château of Lassay 50 minutes and Mont-Saint-Michel an hour.
Opening dates not published: to be confirmed with the campsite.
