The municipal campsite La Chesnaie is in Les Prés de Touvois, in Marigné-Laillé, in the south of the Sarthe. It is a few minutes from the Écommoy exit of the A28 motorway, next to a lake and on the edge of Bercé forest. The Camping-car Park platform places the site about 35 km south of Le Mans, which makes it an easily accessible stopover from the motorway.
The offer is modest and run by the municipality: a municipal holiday cottage for 12 people, three detached chalets for four to six people, and a 14-space motorhome area. Each chalet has a living area with kitchenette, a sofa bed, two bedrooms, a shower room and a separate toilet; each unit has its own terrace. The cottage has a kitchen with dining area, two bedrooms and a dormitory with eight beds.
The opening dates do not appear on the town hall’s page, but the rental units (the cottage and the chalets) are advertised as available from 1 January to 31 December, and the motorhome service point also operates all year. The area’s washrooms, however, are seasonal, from 1 May to 30 September. Off-season, the site therefore mainly suits short family or group stays in the cottage and chalets, as well as motorhome travellers passing through.
The campsite offers few commercial services: think of it as a nature stopover near the Étangs de l’Aune.
Walks in Bercé forest, trout fishing in the Étangs de l'Aune, Marigné-Laillé Christmas market on 12 December 2026.
The site is run directly by the municipality: rental bookings go through the town hall, by phone or email, and motorhome spaces are booked on the Camping-car Park platform. No restaurant or shop is advertised on site.
In the cottage and in the chalets, bed linen and towels can be hired for an extra charge, and a cleaning service can be requested. Each unit has its own entrance, a terrace and parking, and pets are accepted provided this is mentioned when booking. The cottage has a kitchen with dining room, two bedrooms with two single beds and a dormitory with eight single beds, a shower room and a separate toilet.
The 14-space motorhome area has a service point (waste water and toilet emptying, drinking water), electricity and wifi. It is bordered by two lakes and a stream, with a children’s play area, a boules pitch, a table tennis table and picnic tables. The platform shows a rate of €15.26 per 24 hours, tourist tax included. The washrooms open only from 1 May to 30 September: in winter, motorhome travellers therefore use their own facilities and the service point. There is no swimming facility on site, apart from the neighbouring lakes.
The natural setting is the campsite’s main asset. Two lakes border the River Aune, with free access. The larger one is regularly stocked with trout: fishing requires an annual permit, and the association La truite de l’Aune provides the details. Picnic tables and a boules pitch are near the entrance, and the website invites visitors to picnic by the water; the small lake is currently being redeveloped.
Bercé forest, classified as a Forêt d’exception, is about ten minutes away by car. Its waymarked trails can be walked all year round, with the Hermitière valley, the Coudre spring and the Clos high forest, while the GR 35, GR 36 and GR Vallée du Loir trails allow long hikes. The Carnuta centre, devoted to the forest, completes the visit, and the municipality advises avoiding the forest on hunting days, Mondays and Thursdays.
The municipality announces a Christmas market on 12 December 2026 and offers many walking routes. Off-season, these forest walks in autumn colours, trout fishing and the municipality’s events make up most of the outings. Le Mans, about half an hour away by road, offers museums and an old town for rainy days.
Cottage and chalets open from 1 January to 31 December; motorhome area (14 spaces) with services all year, washrooms from 1 May to 30 September.
