The Coudraye campsite is in Saint-Lambert-du-Lattay, one of the wine villages of the new commune of Val-du-Layon (about 3,400 inhabitants), in Maine-et-Loire. It occupies the Coudraye valley, in the heart of the Layon hillsides, 28 km from Angers; Chanzeaux is 6 km away, Rablay-sur-Layon 7 km and Brissac-Quincé 23 km. A bus line stops 300 m from the site.
Run by the commune, the site remains human in scale: 12 shaded pitches for tents and caravans, six mini-chalets without washrooms for 2 to 4 people and four chalets with washrooms, one of them wheelchair-accessible. It is VACAF-approved, which means CAF vouchers can be used.
As for opening, the rule is clear: the four chalets with washrooms are let all year round, while the pitches and mini-chalets open from 20 April to 31 October. From September to June, reception is open Monday to Friday by appointment, from 9am to 5pm. The commune also runs a Camping-Car Park motorhome area at Saint-Aubin-de-Luigné, 5 km away, open all year with 27 shaded pitches.
The whole is aimed at those looking for peace and quiet, vineyards and walks from the campsite.
Walking and mountain biking from the campsite in the Layon vineyards, visits to wine estates, walk to the Pont-Barré 3 km away.
Each chalet has an equipped kitchen (crockery, microwave, fridge, hobs, kettle, coffee maker), a bathroom with shower and toilets, a double bedroom, a bunk-bed room for three and a sofa bed for two in the living room, so a maximum of 7 people, with a terrace. The accessible chalet sleeps up to 5 people in two twin-bed rooms. Pillows and blankets are provided, but sheets must be brought, and they are compulsory. The mini-chalets have the same kitchen and 2 to 4 beds, with a shared washroom block a few steps away.
Campers have a washroom block with a washing-up area, chargeable electric hook-up posts, a covered area with a fridge, a mini-oven, a hob, a microwave and a table, free wifi, a washing machine and a tumble dryer (5 €), as well as the loan of electric barbecues. The campsite also has a tourist information point.
The heated pool, 8 m by 4 m and 1.50 m deep, is outdoors and uncovered: it is only open in July and August, from 10am to 7:30pm, and guests of the Camping-Car Park motorhome area can swim there. In winter, it is therefore the chalets and the motorhome area that remain usable.
Several walking and mountain-bike trails start directly from the campsite and cross the vineyards, then the Hyrôme and Layon valleys. The Coteaux du Pont-Barré, a nature reserve 3 km away, offer a view over the valley, and you can extend the walk there to the bridge where the 1793 battle took place, on the banks of the Layon. Also 3 km away, the ruins of the feudal castle of La Haute-Guerche, dating from the 13th century, can be visited freely.
For children, the campsite offers a play area, the loan of board games, balls and pétanque balls, and a treasure hunt for young and old. The wine estates in the area, including La Ducquerie, Clayou, Les Roseraies or Les Chesnaies, can be visited and produce Anjou wines, Coteaux du Layon and Crémant de Loire.
Further afield, Béhuard, a Loire island village 11 km away, is worth a detour for its 15th-century church, and Angers offers its medieval old town. The campsite also places near the Layon the Loire châteaux, the Parc Oriental de Maulévrier, the Puy du Fou, Terra Botanica and the Doué-la-Fontaine zoo. A brochure on Anjou is given out at reception.
The 4 chalets with washrooms are open all year round; pitches and mini-chalets from 20 April to 31 October; Camping-Car Park motorhome area open all year round.
