Twelve campsites are listed in the Isère, eight of them with verified off-season opening: only those are presented as open all year round. They are spread across the Vercors, the Chartreuse, Belledonne, the Oisans and the area around Grenoble, and the welcome on offer varies greatly from one site to another.
The Camping municipal La Virette, in Le Sappey-en-Chartreuse, is open all year round at 1,000 m altitude, with heated washrooms and heated pods, 12 km from Grenoble. La Cascade, in Venosc, rents out its chalets in winter at the foot of the Deux Alpes cable car, even though the campsite is only advertised from Easter to All Saints’ Day. Near La Terrasse, the Camping du lac de la Terrasse reopens its heated chalets as early as 18 December, after closing from November to mid-December. In the Vercors, Le Vercors in Autrans and Bois Sigu in Lans-en-Vercors advertise winter opening that has not been confirmed: check before booking.
The 3 Pucelles, in Seyssins, welcome mobile homes, caravans and motorhomes twelve months a year, with the tram four minutes away on foot; tents are only accepted there from April to October. L’Imprévu, in Vaulnaveys-le-Bas, is open all year round according to the guides, with a sauna and massages. Le Bois de Cornage, in Vizille, keeps its mobile homes open in winter, but its pitches close from November to March. In La Balme-les-Grottes, the Domaine Beauséjour stays open on the ViaRhôna, 40 minutes from Lyon.
The Cabanes de Fontfroide, near Saint-Antoine-l’Abbaye, can be booked all year round, with optional electric heating. The campsite at Savel, on the shore of Lac de Monteynard, closes for several months: it is a spring, summer and autumn address. At Aux Étangs, in Cheyssieu, off-season opening is still to be confirmed.
Be specific about what stays open: pitches, chalets or mobile homes. In winter, check the heating of the washrooms and the rental accommodation, the state of the roads and the distance to the ski resorts. Book early for the Christmas and February holidays.
From Le Sappey-en-Chartreuse, downhill skiing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing can be enjoyed in the village or at the Col de Porte, 5 km away, and the Bastille of Grenoble is 12 km away. Near Vaulnaveys-le-Bas, Chamrousse is 22 km away, Les 7 Laux 26 km, the Uriage thermal baths ten minutes and the Château de Vizille seven minutes; this château and the Museum of the French Revolution are also 1 km from Le Bois de Cornage.
In Venosc, the cable car runs up to Les Deux Alpes during the Christmas, February and Easter holidays. Hikes and the museums of the Oisans fill the other days. In Seyssins, the Polesud ice rink, the museums of Grenoble and the V63 and V64 greenways offer outings in any weather. Around Saint-Antoine-l’Abbaye, the medieval village can be reached on foot or by mountain bike.
Every open all year round campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.
We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.
