Ten campsites are listed in the Rhône, five of them with verified off-season opening: only those are presented as open all year round. They are concentrated around Lyon and in the Monts du Lyonnais, with different conditions depending on whether you are looking at pitches, chalets or mobile homes.
The Camping de Lyon, a four-star site in Dardilly, welcomes guests all year round on 239 pitches spread over 6 hectares, with heated washrooms, a heated pool from 1 May to 27 September and a bus to Lyon 50 m away. The Camping des Barolles, in Saint-Genis-Laval, welcomes guests 365 days a year, 20 minutes from the centre, with a direct bus to Place Bellecour; its tent area closes in winter. In Mornant, La Trillonnière rents out six chalets almost all year round, except between Christmas and early January, and opens its pitches during the Festival of Lights.
At Au Cœur des Monts, in Les Halles, chalets and mobile homes are open 365 days a year, while the pitches close from December to March. Tonik Camping, in Vindry-sur-Turdine, is open all year round with no announced closure, with eighteen pitches, a pool and a hot tub.
The Camping du Sonnay, Les Cerisiers, Les Chalets de la Presqu’île in Condrieu, the municipal campsite in Cublize, near Lac des Sapins, and L’Hacienda in Yzeron claim to be open all year or say nothing about winter: no date is verified, so call before booking.
Long stays are possible: Au Cœur des Monts advertises monthly rates, and the Camping de Lyon welcomes professionals for stays from one night to several months. Ask whether tents are accepted, whether the washrooms are heated and which bus lines serve Lyon. For the Festival of Lights, around 8 December, book very early.
Lyon can be visited in winter too: Vieux Lyon, Fourvière, the Musée des Confluences 7 km from Les Barolles, the Charlemagne ice rink. The Festival of Lights, around 8 December, draws the crowds; La Trillonnière then runs a shuttle, and the Sirha trade fair and the Nuits sonores are also among the city’s events.
Further west, the Monts du Lyonnais offer the grand hiking tour and pond fishing from Les Halles. In the green Beaujolais, Tonik Camping is close to the Glay quarries, open all year round, 35 minutes from Lyon. Nordic skiing is available at Mont Pilat, not far from Saint-Genis-Laval, and the markets of Saint-Genis-Laval liven up the week. At Les Halles, an aquatic centre and a bowling alley are nearby. At Bessenay, a riding centre is 1.5 km away and the Château de Peyrelade 3.5 km, while at Cublize Lac des Sapins and its leisure area are less than a kilometre away.
Every open all year round campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.
We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.
