Nine campsites are listed in Savoie, of which six have verified off-season opening: only those are presented as open all year. They are spread across the Tarentaise, the Maurienne, the Chartreuse and Lac du Bourget, with very different conditions of welcome from one site to the next.
At Aussois, the Camping municipal La Buidonnière remains accessible for winter caravanning and in rentals, with a single one-week closure in early May. Le Bioley, in La Plagne Tarentaise, is open twelve months a year at 1,300 m, facing the resort; chalet heating is included from 3 January to 18 April, then from 19 September to 2 January. In the Chartreuse, L’Ourson in Entremont-le-Vieux offers heated chalets and, depending on conditions, pitches cleared of snow.
On the Savières canal, the Camping des Îles in Chanaz welcomes travellers on its pitches, in its chalets and in a mobile home; the ecolodges and safari tents are available only in spring and summer. Not far from Lac du Bourget, Le Bol d’Air, a small farm campsite in Saint-Paul-sur-Yenne, opens its pitches from 1 January to 31 December.
The Marintan, in Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne, rents its chalets and mobile homes all year, but its bare pitches are closed from October to April. The Camping Marie-France in Grand-Aigueblanche closes for several months: it is a seasonal address. At Orelle and Montchavin, off-season opening is still to be confirmed with the campsite.
First specify what stays open: tents, caravans, chalets or mobile homes. In winter, ask whether the washrooms and accommodation are heated, whether the pitches are cleared of snow and which shuttle serves the lifts. Book early for school holidays.
From Aussois, the ski area stretches from 1,500 to 2,700 m and the resort also offers Nordic skiing, sledding, tubing and a heated pool, at the gates of the Vanoise national park. In the Maurienne, the Orelle cable car, towards Val-Thorens, is about seven minutes from the Marintan, and the resorts of Valmeinier, Valloire and Les Karellis are close.
Opposite La Plagne, snowshoe routes leave the Bioley chalets for the Nordic site at La Côte d’Aime. In the Chartreuse, L’Ourson gives access to the downhill skiing of the Granier, the Désert and the Planolet, and to sledding. Away from the mountains, Chanaz and its canal can be visited all year, and from Saint-Paul-sur-Yenne you can cycle to Lac du Bourget through the tunnel du Chat or hike towards the dent du Chat.
Every open all year round campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.
We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.
